Gary Johnson

April 29, 2022

Gary Lynn Johnson, amazing Husband, Father, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, and Friend entered the kingdom of heaven to walk with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 29, 2022. He was born on February 28, 1954 in Minot, North Dakota to George and Eva (Helseth) Johnson. He was preceded in death by his cherished first wife, Maria L Johnson, in 2008. He is survived by his beloved wife Michelle L Johnson, daughter Michelle (Bryan) Bowen and Suzanne (Jason) Walker, granddaughter MacKenzie Arden, as well as many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Arizona and Colorado. He is also survived by sisters Mary (Bob) Warrick, Debbie (Carlos) Valderrama, Laurie (Allen) Hanson, and Susie (David) Pilcher, and brother Jody. He is additionally survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Gary graduated from California Polytechnic University in Pomona in 1978 with a BS in business management. He had a 30-year career as a project manager with Ace Hardware. During his time with Ace, he traveled extensively through the South Pacific and the continental United States. Throughout his life he was greatly involved in the communities where he lived, showing support to local schools and businesses. Gary could often be found working in the yard, completing household projects, and being an all around "Ace is the Place" guy. He also served many years as a deacon of Heritage Baptist and Cross Fellowship Churches.
Gary was diagnosed with ALS in 2017. He and his wife Michelle were able to retire and travel over the next several years. They took several cruises to Alaska and Hawaii but their most memorable trip was to Israel to see the Holy Land where Gary felt blessed to visit the locations where his Lord once walked.
Gary's true love and joy was always Jesus. He spent may hours studying God's Word, writing study guides, and lived his life in constant prayer. His faith was the hallmark of his life; he exuded the Fruits of the Spirit in everything that he did. Gary's prayer for his family and everyone he met was that they would have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He witnessed and brought countless people to the Lord. Even as his disease progressed, Gary had a smile on his face and words of wisdom and comfort to those who needed it.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, May 14th at 11am at Cross Fellowship Church: Palmer Park Campus located at 4808 Palmer Park Blvd Colorado Springs, CO 80915. A lunch reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family askes that you consider donations to The ALS Association Rocky Mountain Chapter or Pikes Peak Christian School. Clickable links to these organizations are located below this obituary should you wish to donate.
2 Timothy 4:6-7 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith.
