Gary Markle passed away after a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer on January 29, 2025, surrounded by his family, whom he loved very much. Born on April 9, 1953, in Strongsville, Ohio, Gary was one of four children to Homer and Marilyn Markle. He grew up in Ohio, and after settling in Colorado Springs, he quickly became a cherished pillar of the community, making lasting contributions.
As an entrepreneur, Gary founded multiple companies, including the Colorado Springs Technology Incubator, where he served as CEO. He later became Vice President of the Colorado Springs Economic Development Corporation and then President of Central BanCorp (now CrossFirst Bank) before retiring in 2020. Throughout his career, Gary was deeply involved in the community, serving on numerous boards and committees. Notably, he was President of the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo in 2014 and served on the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo Foundation Board.
Gary enjoyed golf and a variety of activities, but his greatest passion was the cowboy way of life - spending time at his ranch in Cripple Creek riding his horses, being a member of the Pikes Peak Range Riders, and traveling with his wife on horseback riding trips through France and Africa.
Gary is welcomed into heaven by his grandparents, parents, sister Kristin Markle, father-in-law Berek Klayman, brothers-in-law Warren Youngquist and Tim O'Sicky, and nephew Adam O'Sicky. He will be immensely missed and always loved by his wife, Maryann; his children Heather (Chad), Lacey (Reed), and Daniel, sister Karen O'Sicky and brother Thomas Markle, sister-in-law Elizabeth Youngquist, mother-in-law Maria Klayman, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and his most loyal furry companion, Levi.
