Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Gary passed away peacefully, his wife by his side. A commendation service was held on August 3rd with family members present. Gary was born to Harold Miller and Maxine Hollingsworth in Montrose, CO. After high school graduation, he earned his BA in Math, Education and Physics from Western State College in Gunnison and his MAT in Secondary Math Education at Harvard, as a Graduate of Distinction. Gary was married to Toni Burton from 1962-1974. They had two children, Brian and Jennifer. In 1975 Gary married Gwynethe Whitlock, who has a daughter, Gillian. Gary taught math at Mitchell and Coronado High Schools and was a Data Processor at Coronado. After retiring from teaching, he was a Trainer and Investment Advisor at T. Rowe Price. During his career, he was a Delegate to NEA Conventions, President of CSTA, CEA Board Member, and Co-ordinator of a District-wide Energy Conservation Project. He received a Curriculum Grant for Integrated Math and Science; Tandy Corporation Technology Scholars National award; West Side Recipient for Service to the Community; grant for the TCI Education Project. He was a judge for the UCCS Math Olympiad, a Democratic Precinct Chair and a Rotary Club Treasurer in Westcliffe, CO. Gary loved his family, teaching, traveling, God, music, humanity, and the environment. He traveled to many countries throughout the Americas, Europe and Africa and loved bird watching, hiking, gardening and music. He sang in The Colorado Springs Chorale and the First Lutheran Church choir and regularly attended classical symphonic group concerts and operas. Gary is survived by his wife, Gwynethe; children Brian (Jackie), Jennifer (Jeff), and Gillian (Jesse); four grandchildren, Andrew, Alex, Ashley, and Jason, one great grandchild, Ben, and a brother Merle (Judy). A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 15th at 2pm at First Lutheran Church, 1515 N. Cascade, Colorado Springs. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Lutheran Church, Lutheran Family Services, Parish House Baroque, Audubon Society, Nature Conservancy or KCME.

In summer 1986, School District 11 hired me to give a math problem solving course for math teachers. Best problem solver in my class was a "data processor" Gar Miller. I convinced him to go back to teaching. Starting in 1987, Gary had served for decades as one of key judges of the Colorado Mathematical Olympiad (1984 - Present). In the picture, Gary is in the middle, Bib Ewell on the left, Keith Mann in the middle background, and I on the right. Gary was a true Gentleman, talented problem solver, always calm and positive. He will be missed by many; I miss Gary...
