Watson
Gary Watson
February 6, 1943
July 21, 2023

Gary Lee Watson went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 21st, 2023, as a result of complications from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He was a lifelong journalist, working as a reporter and copy editor. He worked for the Colorado Springs Free Press, the Colorado Springs Sun, and for the last 24 years of his career, commuted to the Rocky Mountain News in Denver, which at the time was the largest newspaper in the time zone. He was a retired U.S. Army veteran who worked as a military photojournalist.
Gary was born Feb. 6, 1943, in Audubon Park, New Jersey. Gary Watson and his wife, Mary, moved to Colorado in 1969, when Gary was assigned to Ft. Carson, and made Colorado their home for good. Since 1970, they have resided in Black Forest. He is survived by his widow, Mary Grayce Watson (Lewis); sons Scott and Ron; three grandsons, Jonathan, Caleb and Daniel; a granddaughter-in-law Rissa; and his great grandson and great granddaughter.
Memorial services will be held at Fox Run Regional Park in Blackforest on Friday September 15th at 1pm.

Gary was a guide for me when I first joined the copy desk at the Rocky Mountain News in 2000. He cared about the newsroom and he was careful in his work. He was proud of his military service and his family. My condolences to his family.
