Geoffrey Conover Obituary

Geoff Conover was a lifelong resident of Colorado Springs who loved Colorado's mountains, especially when fishing his favorite lakes and streams. Whenever others would get "skunked", Geoff would be reeling them in, with a smile as big as his haul. Geoff graduated from Mitchell H.S. in 1980, and served in the U.S. Navy until his honorable discharge in 1984. Geoff was an honest hard working man. He was employed at the Cheyenne Mountain Complex as a Maintenence Trade Worker prior to that he worked as a heavy equipment operator at Ft. Carson. Geoff will be remembered for his sense of humor and his down to earth way of making you feel at ease the minute you met him. He had an easy wit that could have you belly laughing and he could be counted on to give you a big bear hug whenever you needed one. Besides fishing, Geoff's greatest love was his family. He never failed to tell his family how much he loved them, often calling just to say hey and to make sure all was well. He was especially proud of his son Cameron and often expressed his joy of being his father. He also was very proud of being his grandson Michael's pa-pa. He is survived by his loving wife Connie (another of his trophy catches), his son Cameron, step children Matt, Lucy, and Chris, grandson Michael. He is also survived by his mother AlDona Conover, siblings Charles (Charlie) Conover and Cheryl Mantz and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. As a believer in Jesus as his savior, Geoff knew that he would be reunited with his family members who preceded him in death, including his father Jay Conover and Grandparents Donald & Alice Green and Mary Conover. Services will be held Saturday, April 30th at 11:00 A.M. at Northeast Bible Chapel, 1722 McArthur Avenue, Colorado Springs. Donations in lieu flowers can be made to the Geoff Conover Memorial Fund, Wells Fargo Bank, AC #1508358528. It's not goodbye...just "so long".

It's been 10 years Geoffie. I still get mad and sad that you left us but mostly am so grateful to you for our son and the man he has become. He has the best of both of us and he makes me smile just like you used to.
You remain in our memories and our hearts. Wish I could come up with a line to make us laugh - you were always good at that. All I can remember is "wake up and pee, the world's on fire". ha. that's so you. Love,Kelly Belly

Dad, there's not a day that goes by that I don't think of you. I miss our fishing adventures and days of hanging out. But I know you're with me everyday and your memory is still strong with all of us. I'm so grateful that you were my Dad and our days together will always be apart of me. I miss you and love you so much but I know we'll be united again one day. Always remember it's not goodbye, it's only so long.

I knew Geoffrey as a young boy. So full of life! My heart goes out to his family. His mother has been a friend of mine for many years. I know she is heartbroken. Words are never enough at a time like this, but know that I am thinking of you my dear friend and sharing your pain. God Bless.

April 30, 2011

My life is richer as I knew Geoff and even witnessed his monster Lake Trout being hauled in at N.Catamont . He slipped the stringer through the gills and "walked it by the shore" to get it to the car and home and mounted. If someone needed a shirt, he would take it off his back and give it to them. I going to miss you Geoff and may all your goodness forever shine forth from those who knew your greatness. Only a few touch us in our lives, let us learn from what you gave , my wish is that you look from Heaven upon the lakes and keep smiling.

Connie Conover and Family,
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Geoff was a wonderful person and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. I was heartbroken to hear the news, and I want you to know that our thoughts are with you. I remember the gentle spirit and helpful nature of Geoff, and will always remember him as an exceptionally special and giving person. There is a great void to be filled by Geoff's passing, but I know that the depth of love that you and your family share for each other and for Geoff will pull you through. Honor his memory with that love and the wonderful memories you share of him. Although no words can really help ease the loss you bear, just know that you are very close in our every thought and prayer.

It's been quite a few years since I worked with Geoff but he was a memorable person. His big smile and distinctive laugh were his trademarks. I remember he always used to say "hollywood!!". I am sure he will continue to catch big fish from the great lake in the sky. The world was a better place because of him. We will all miss him.

Geoff - it has been so many, many years since I teased you and called you Gee-off. You were a great friend, from grade school through high school. You grew to be a great man. Until we meet again, my old friend, hold a seat for me. I will miss you, but I know I will see you again some day. May your heart be at peace, and your family be blessed and comforted.

I am very sorry to hear about Geoff. We were longtime neighbors and I have many fond memories of him. In middle school, when some of the other kids encouraged Geoff to tease me, he declined. That is a sign of a good person who will stand up against his peers for what is right. My prayers and thoughts are with his family. Kim McCullough (Robinson)

Connie and family,
I was so upset when I first heard of Geoffs passing that it's hard for me to put into words what Geofff meant to me the short ten years I've known him. He was a poster child for what I saw in all good, hard working men. He made going to work a pleasure because you knew if you ask Geoff how things were going it would enlighten your day. I will surely miss him and think about him when things get tough. GOD BLESS YOU CONNIE AND FAMILY - My thoughts are with you - D Thrower C.S.- CO

Geoff will be missed but never forgotten. His smile and grace always brought lite to Cheyenne Mountain AFS. To me he was funny and a easy going person. Geoff also was a man who demanded respect and told you what for if you did not give it to him. A man's man with pride and a family first attitude. It was a pleasure getting to know him. To his family and loved ones keep his beliefs and traditions with you always.

I am deeply saddened by the news of Geoff's passing. We sure shared some great times fishing, listening to RUSH, working together and just hanging out. I will never forget that big smile and wonderful laugh. So many stories come to mind of the times we shared and all of them put a smile on my face and have me laughing when I think of them.(you threw a brand new rod in 11-mile, or at least 1/2 of it) that was classic! You were a character and always made everyone feel good. You will be sooo missed my friend. My condolences to all of Geoff's family and friends. May God bless you all and comfort you through this most difficult time.

To the Conover family, sorry for your loss. I didn't know Geoffrey that well but from the times i would see him i could only see a good, nice, and freindly man. I would sometimes pass by him from time to time at work and would wave and talk with him from time to time. I know this time is going to be hard and it will be tuff for all to understand why it all happen. But through it all i will keep your family in my prayers. And know that God will never take you to a place, he could never bring you through.
