George Acker Obituary

George Bernard Acker, age 84 passed away February 14, 2012 in Greeley, Colorado. George was the fourth of five children, born to Helen Celestia Besson and Lawrence George Joseph Acker. His childhood and youth were happily spent with them at their home in the Goodstreak Community, north of Bayard, Nebraska. George attended high school in Alliance and Bayard, and was a graduate of St. Patrick's Academy in Sidney in 1944. He continued his education throughout his career in banking. George spent two years in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1947. A forty four year career in banking began in 1947 at the Scottsbluff National Bank in Nebraska, continuing in Sheridan, Wyoming. From there he went to Denver and Colorado Springs and then to Greeley, Colorado. George retired in 1991 from First National Bank of Colorado Springs where he was Senior Vice President and Chairman of their banks in Manitou and Fort Carson, Colorado. George and his wife Colleen Kronberg, had three children, Timothy George, Thomas Edward and Theodore John. They divorced in 1971. George and his wife Carol Lilley were married in Sheridan, Wyoming on March 31, 1973. They were married for thirty-seven years and spent their retirement at the Owl Ranch on Wilson Creek north of Simla, Colorado where they raised Long Horn cattle and Carol continued her lifelong love of training and showing Quarter Horses. In 2006, due to Carol's health, they moved back to Greeley to be near Carol's family until her passing in 2008. George is survived by two sons, Tim and his wife Elaine and their two children and two great-grandchildren, Tom and his two children and one great-grandchild. Step-children Jack Chieslar, Sheri Bressler and husband Dave and their two children, Teresa D'Spain and husband Stetson Tapp and their two children. George is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Theresa Helen, brothers Joe, Jim and Lawrence and his son Theodore John. George will rest next to Carol, his beloved wife in Sheridan Wyoming, where her stone carries the inscription "Please Don't Tell Me How the Story Ends" and his is inscribed "Our Story - Our Love - Will Never End." Services for George will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 20, 2012 at Kane Funeral Home with Reverend Kevin Jones officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the George and Carol Acker Memorial, at Eldergarden Adult Day Care Center, 910 27th Street, Greeley, Colorado 80634.
