George Bennett Obituary

George Raymond Bennett passed from this life on April 23, 2005. Born October 29, 1939, George was a native of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Raised in the downtown area of the Springs, he attended Helen Hunt Elementary School and South Junior High School and went on to graduate from Colorado Springs High School in 1957. It was here that he made many life-long friends that remained close to him over the years and filled his final weeks with many visits and stories of the "good ole days". George and his family were grateful for their hours of reminiscing about things that had occurred over the years. From the years of growing up, to the days of running around with the Torreadors Car Club, and stories of trips to Arizona and New Mexico to the car races. The recalling of them all filled our hearts and minds with vivid memories and gave George the overwhelming feeling of gratitude and thankfulness to have been surrounded with so many friends and family members throughout his years. George spent his working career in the automotive parts industry. He worked his way up from stocking parts to delivery, to working the counter, then managed stores for over 25 years. His knowledge and skill in the business was passed on to many that worked with him and was valued by so many of his customers that he dealt with. George was the loving father of Craig (Susan) of Westminster, Michael (Patti) of Peyton and Daniel of Colorado Springs. His three grandsons, Matthew, Troy, and Ryan, his beloved Sharon Merk, sister Sandy Acheson, a daughter in law Gayla, and his first wife Brucellia survive him. He was preceded in death by his father George Sr. and his mother Tina. He will be greatly missed by all. Celebration of his life will be held on April 28, 2005 at Evergreen Mortuary at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at Calvary United Methodist Church, 4210 Austin Bluffs Parkway. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pikes Peak Hospice at St. Francis Hospital.

It's never easy for those left behind, when you lose someone so special. May it help to know that many have shared in our loss. It will be a year on Sunday that George lift us to go to the place that He picked, on His time, doing it His way, & that the pain is over for him. Remember that He loved each of us & really isn't very far away. We'll always miss him & we'll always hold him in our hearts. Tenderly, may time heal your sorrow. Gentley, may friends ease your pain. Softley, may peace replace heartache & may warmest memories remain.

Love to all of you,

Behind those eyes there shined a light, that guided you from your first steps, down life's highway through thick and thin, so you could learn wrong from right.

Behind those eyes there beat a heart that taught you love is what you feel, to be taken as it comes, not something you take apart.

Behind those eyes there lived a soul that speaks to you from deep within and warns you still, to not despair those things in life you cannot control.

Behind those eyes there was a love that never let you out of sight that still stretches from your deepest flaw and reaches to the farthest star above.

Behind those eyes you saw yourselves, the hopes, the dreams, all he had for you. You saw yourselves as you could be and what you are now, behind your fathers’ eyes.

My Deepest Sympathy to All.

I first met George at a family gathering. He made me feel like I had known him forever. We accepted him as a member of our family. I only wish I could have known him for a longer period of time. He was always a gentleman, and gave my daughter, Sharon, years of happiness.

Peace be with you George.

Deepest Sympathy for the loss of your loved one. "May you find comfort and consolation in knowing that others care and share your sorrow."

I will miss George very much. I fell in love with him the first time I met him. He was alway very kind, compassionate, and had a great sense of humor. He always added fun and good times when he attended family gatherings with my sister, Sharon. The most resent was in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the Balloon Festival last Oct. I know he loved Sharon very much, and she returned that love. I'll miss you George and I love you too.

My daughter sent this to me for George on 4/11/05 and he really thought that this said it all. "Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, throughtly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming: WOW! WHAT A RIDE!

George loved sitting in Sharon's garden. I know that every flower that comes up will be a gentle reminder to Sharon of the many hours they shared enjoying that beauty.

Love is patient, love is kind.It does not envy,it does not boast,it is not proud. It is not rude,it is not self-seeking.It is not easily angered,it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trust, always hopes, always persevers. Love never fails! Corinthians 13:4-8
