George Dawes Obituary

George A. Dawes of Colorado Springs, CO., died on June 23, 2009 at Cheyenne Mountain Care Center. Our loving husband, father and grandfather was born in Muldrow, Oklahoma on February 25, 1922 to Harvey & Ollie Dawes. He served in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific during World War II as a photographer of maps. He then served in the Air Force and retired in 1965 with the rank of Captain. He was a "Summa Cum Laude" graduate of Ohio State University. Among his many military assignments he taught at the Officer's Candidate School at both the University of Arkansas and Ohio State University. Upon his military retirement, he entered into commercial real estate and was a developer. He enjoyed photography, worldwide travel and several unheralded inventions. He is survived by his wife, Garnita E. Dawes and his daughter Jan Raetz of Colorado Springs and his son George A. Dawes of Tomball, Texas. He is also survived by his step children Dave Nelson (Ingrid) of Rosenberg, Texas, Carl Nelson of Colorado Springs, CO., and Cathy Goto (Hiroshi) of Springfield, virginia. He is survived by 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl Ann Hardcastle (Gene), his first wife, Margaret H. Dawes and his son in law Bernie Raetz. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2009 from 3:30 to 5 PM at Cheyenne Place, 949 Tenderfoot Hill Road, Colorado Springs, CO., 80906. The family requests donation be made to Pikes Peak Hospice or the Alzheimer's Assocaition.
