George Fryer Obituary

Fryer
GEORGE A. FRYER
November 5, 1937 December 24, 2018
George Fryer, age 81, gently passed away at his home in Monument, CO on December 24, 2018 after a short illness caused by cancer. George was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be greatly missed by many on earth and joyously greeted in heaven.
George was born on November 5, 1937 to George W. and Ruth K. Fryer in Utica, New York, eventually settling in and growing up in Oneida, New York. George was an accomplished high school athlete, earning letters playing football, basketball and baseball, graduating in 1955. George and Dorothy (Moore) were married in Oneida on May 30, 1957 and were happily married until his passing.
George was a member of the Class of 1959 at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania earning a Bachelor's of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Upon graduation he joined Combustion Engineering, Inc. and began a career with them that spanned five decades. He was an accomplished and respected leader building power plants in many states. George and Dorothy enjoyed living in and experiencing many different parts of the United States and made many friends during their travels. They moved to Colorado Springs in 1983 and settled in Monument in 1987.
George and Dorothy joined Sunrise United Methodist Church in Colorado Springs soon after moving to the area. George was a devoted member of Sunrise, serving as an usher and on the building, finance and trustee committee and helping with other needs as they arose. After retirement in 2006 he assisted building houses with his crew from Habitat for Humanity. It's for certain that every door in every house he worked on is perfectly plumb, level and square. He very much enjoyed his Thursday morning breakfast and Bible study with his friends.
George was an avid fan and supporter of Air Force and Lehigh athletics and the Rockies and the Broncos. He and Dorothy made many trips to many states and countries to watch their grandchildren play a variety of sports.
George is survived by Dorothy, his loving wife of over 61 years; son Don Fryer and wife Ruth of Northlake, TX; son Darrell Fryer and wife Lisa of San Juan Capistrano, CA; daughter Karen and husband Andy of Singapore; grandchildren Elizabeth (Keenan), Lauren (Zach), Douglas, Brooke, David, Haley, Leah, Ryan, Nicole and Jack; sister Suzanne Bellinger of Vernon, NY; sister Kathleen McGraw of Holly Springs, North Carolina; nieces and nephews; and a great many friends. As much as we will miss him we are equally grateful for the blessing of our time together.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am December 31, 2018 at Sunrise United Methodist Church, 2655 Briargate Blvd., Colorado Springs. A reception will follow at the church. Interment will be at a later date at Stockbridge Cemetery, Stockbridge, New York. Memorials in George's name may be made to Sunrise UMC or Habitat for Humanity.

Dearest Dorothy, Darrell, Don, Karen and spouses, & grandchildren and sister of George, we are so grateful that our Amy & Bryan (Alley) and their children, Grace (11) & Cooper (08) have had George and his Dorothy as their caring neighbors. George would always give the children little jobs for earning money. Grace and Cooper love the Fryers for their caring and sensitive ways. They will miss their friend, George so very much. Thank you all for sharing him with our family. He was a jewel to us all. Mary and Jack London

Such good memories of George and Dorothy when they lived in Buffalo. I have a feeling that George and Lindy are already discussing baseball in their Eternal Home. My deepest sympathies to Dorothy and family.
