Like many of George's friends at School District 11, I was shocked and sad to hear he was gone, especially when it looked as though there might finally be some resolution to his health ordeals. I can't help but believe that timing was an issue and so, in honor of his memory, I am finally getting that organ donor box checked on my driver's license. I hope others will consider this too.

I am fortunate to have known George and I have more than a few moments stored in memory. It's a testament to George that all those memories are of laughter. He was a good and merry soul, gone too soon.

Good journey, old friend. I won't forget you.

Special people come into our lives and share their generosity and gentle spirits. George was one of those special people. He spoke often of his family who he loved so dearly. We will miss sharing our lives and our home with him. I remember one day in particular. Our two year old grandson was acting up, and George called him over and put him on his lap and read him a story in the softest voice. Before long, he had him calm and relaxed. It was this gentle spirit that touched each of us and endeared him to us. He was a talented teacher who shared his love of learning and education with each child he taught. He was a wonderful friend. We will miss him.
