Georgie will always have a special place in my heart. Margaret and Ernie Moeller were his aunt and uncle and my grandparents, so I grew up with stories about Georgie. I first remember meeting him in person at the Lake Placid Olympics. He had a booming voice, a warm smile, and as always great stories to tell. We lived in Connecticut, so he would take my dad, Clint Bowman, and my grandpa, Ernie, to the Basketball Hall of Fame dinner every year. Those times were highlights of those years.
I know that he was a World War II vet. There can't be many left now. He would tell us stories about frozen Thanksgiving Turkeys and trying to figure out what to do with them in the trenches.
We had the opportunity to see him the summer of 2016. We weren't sure what to expect because he was on hospice at the time. However, it was a good day for him. He told us stories and made us laugh the entire time. That's how I will remember him.
I am sure right now, he is in Heaven, with his Aunt Marge and Uncle Ernie and cousin Barbara (my mom) telling his stories and laughing about something.
We will miss him, but will see him again some day.
