George Jack Muckelrath

George Jack Muckelrath died peacefully on December 31,2024 with his wife, Evelyn, by his side. He was born February 18, 1927 in Eldorado, Arkansas to Roscoe and Minnie Ola (Allbritton) Muckelrath. He was the seventh of nine children and the last surviving member of the family.
George spent 24 years in the USAF as a Telecommunications System Specialist. While stationed at Bergstrom AFB he met and married Evelyn Yakesch on January 16, 1952. Over the next 24 years they travelled the world together and added 4 children to their family. His final duty station was the 47th Communications Group ENT AFB and then NORAD before retiring January 1, 1970.
After retiring from the USAF, George worked as a Fire Dispatcher for the City of Colorado Springs. In 1982, he was recruited by Ford Aerospace in Clear Lake, Texas to work communications with the Space Shuttle Program. He worked about 40 missions from 1982 until he retired in 1991.
In his younger days, George enjoyed bowling and playing golf. He loved gardening and was especially fond of lilacs. He was also a diehard Denver Broncos fan.
He was involved with the American Legion and Lions Club for several years. He especially enjoyed going into the schools and interacting with the young children during eye examinations.
George will be missed by his wife, Evelyn, surviving children Alan Muckelrath, Kathryn Muckelrath Genoshe, and Kenneth Muckelrath (Teresa), as well as Tom Baynard (Pamela Muckelrath Baynard), 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Pamela Ann Muckelrath Baynard, his parent's, and eight siblings.
Visitation will be 6-8pm Tuesday January 14, 2025 at Swan Law Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at Holy Cross Luthern Church at 10:30am Wednesday January 15, 2025 with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, please give to Holy Cross Luthern Church.
