George A. Olson
1936 - 2017
George A. Olson passed away on November 26, 2017 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born in Glasco, Kansas in 1936, the third of five children of the late Ralph L. and Ella (Henry) Olson.
George graduated from the University of Colorado in 1962, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He was a Certified Public Accountant and a long-time member of the American Institute of CPAs and Colorado Society of CPAs. He relocated from Denver to Colorado Springs in 1967 to join Western Forge Corporation, as its Chief Financial Officer and served as its President from 1982 to 1988.
George was active in many civic and charitable organizations and, served on the Board of the United Way, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and served as President of Cheyenne Village, and President of the Manufacturers' Association. He was a member of Cheyenne Mountain Country Club, the Broadmoor Golf Club, and the El Paso Club. George served his country honorably with the U.S. Army and the Air Force Reserve.
George loved a good time, of which he had many with family and friends over his lifetime. One of his many talents was storytelling and he could colorfully recount memorable events to everyone's enjoyment. George was also known for his quick wit, effortlessly throwing out one-liners that would leave people in stitches. George leaves behind many people who are proud that he considered them a friend.
He is survived by his wife, Heather Cogswell Olson; two children: Eric Olson (Michelle Wimer) of Buffalo, North Dakota and Andrea Olson (Gregg Solar) of Berkeley, California; two step-children: Heather Goff (Rob) of Golden, Colorado, and Elizabeth Rawson (Mathew) of Denver, Colorado; and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, John Olson of Bremerton, Washington; and a sister, Mary Ellen Hitchcock of Evans, Colorado.
A memorial service will be held at Chapel of Our Saviour, 8 Fourth Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado on Wednesday, December 13th at 1:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in George's name, to the Chapel of Our Saviour or Abode Hospice, 1980 Dominion Way, Suite 101, Colorado Springs, CO, 80918.
