Gerald "Jerry" Eugene Hulsey, Jr., 71, of Colorado Springs, CO, passed away on September 29, 2025. Jerry was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a dedicated leader in his community. His passion for the outdoors and commitment to service left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Born on December 16, 1953, in Hammond, Indiana, to Marcia Jean Hulsey and Gerald Eugene Hulsey, Jerry's life was defined by a strong work ethic and a love of adventure. After graduating from Morton High School in 1971, he pursued a degree in Electrical Engineering at Purdue University. Following his graduation, his love for the great outdoors was ignited while proudly testing snowblowers on Mount Rainier for his job at Underwriters Laboratories.
Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Terri Ellen Burnum, and their marriage was a true testament to the phrase "until death do us part." While living in Chicago, they welcomed two sons, Adam Rainier and Matthew John. Jerry's love for Colorado, discovered during a business trip, inspired him to move his young family to Colorado Springs in 1984 to embrace and explore the great outdoors.
As his boys grew, Jerry's dedication to his family and community flourished. He channeled his love for camping and hiking and saw the unmet need for a Boy Scout Troop on the west side of Colorado Springs. He drove through neighborhoods recruiting families until he had enough interest to form Boy Scout Troop 287 at Wilson United Methodist Church. At its peak, the troop grew to over 100 scouts who benefited from Jerry's leadership on countless adventures, including camping in the Colorado Rockies, sailing and scuba diving in the Florida Keys, riding the Amtrak to Truckee, California, and even biking down the Rhine River in Germany. Jerry was incredibly proud that 42 young men earned the rank of Eagle Scout under his watch.
Throughout his career, Jerry worked as a product safety engineer. He started his own company to meet the needs of the growing technology market in Colorado Springs, operating the business for 30 years before retiring in 2020. He traded his beloved 35-year-old Craftsman snowblower for an RV, opting to avoid snow altogether and fulfilling a lifelong dream of traveling the country.
Jerry and Terri celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 31, 2025. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Marcia. He is survived by his wife, Terri, of Colorado Springs; his sons, Adam (Sarah Fetzer) of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, and Matthew (Sarah Scheinman) of Breckenridge, Colorado; his pride and joy grandchildren, Shepard (14) and Alice (10) of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; and Jerry's siblings: Pamela Silvas, David Hulsey, Jill Klingberg, Kevin Hulsey, and Linda Anderson.
A celebration of Jerry's life will be held on October 17, 2025, at 10 a.m. Mountain Time at:
Wilson Community Church
