Gerald Petersen Memoriam

Gerald Ray "Gerry" Petersen aged 82 passed away in Colorado Springs on Friday, March 10, 2017. Born October 8, 1934, in El Campo, Texas to Lois and Elmer Petersen, he attended El Campo High School, Wharton County Junior College and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a Bachelors and Masters in Education. He was honored to be chosen ALLSTATE lineman by the Dallas Morning News and chosen Captain of the University of Texas football team against Texas A & M. Gerald was drafted by the Baltimore Colts in 1955 and played professional football for two years. He then began his teaching and coaching careers with 8 years in west Texas, 8 years in southern Maryland and 20 years in Fountain, Colorado before retiring in 1990.

In 1956 Gerald married Ruth Hall, that marriage ended in 1979. On May 2, 1980 he married Isabelle Landowski. Gerald and Isabelle traveled throughout the world to most major countries and cities.

Gerald considered himself a Christian with no major regrets and said he would change few things in his life. He enjoyed his later years at Medalion Retirement Community, playing golf in the summer weekly while his health allowed. He wished to thank the staff at Medalion for their help and understanding.

Gerald is preceded in death by his wife Isabelle (2013), and by his son Vincent Ray Petersen. He is survived by his son Randal Lee Petersen (Tammie), his brother, Gary Petersen(Glenna), sister, Lavona Evans(Von) and Grandchildren, Jacob, Victoria and Laura.

Gerald has given his body to the Colorado Anatomical Board. Memorial Services will be held at the Medalion Retirement Community, 1719 E Bijou St, Colorado Springs, on Friday, March 17th, 2017 at 2:00pm.

Loved Gerry's cheerful spirit! He brightened the room with his smile and offered positive insight in any situation. Thankful for his continued devotion to Jeanne Traynor (Ise's sister)...he called and they shared memories regularly. Always remembered with a smile. Rest in Peace.
