Gerard Meluso Obituary

Gerard Michael Meluso of Colorado Springs passed away September 4, 2012 at age 52 after a long illness. He was born in Ridgewood, New Jersey in 1959. He graduated from Marquette University, where he met his lovely wife, Lisa. He earned his MBA from Boston University. They eventually settled in Colorado Springs, a place they are happy to call home. Employed for many years in the computer technology industry, most recently with NetApp, Gerard's specialty was new business acquisitions and super computer storage. Words could never express the tremendous legacy Gerard has left behind. Whether you met him through scouting or church or work, the imprint he placed on all who knew him is one that can never be forgotten. As an Elder at Woodmen Valley Chapel, and a member of the Finance Council, he was valued for his business acumen and consummate leadership skills. Gerard loved to spend time outdoors - hiking, camping, skiing and, especially, fly-fishing. He was a constant source of inspiration and strived to live up to "God is at work in me to will and act according to His good purpose." He was a devoted and encouraging father and father-figure to many, a loving son and brother, and a deeply personal friend. There are no words to capture his phenomenal spirit: "I'm so filled with hope, joy and peace, no matter when the outcome that I just want to pass it on." His lasting gift is the example he set to live a faith-filled life in service to others and devotion to God. Mr. Meluso is survived by his wife, Lisa (Napierala); his sons, John and Anthony; and his daughter, Grace. He also leaves behind five siblings, and many beloved nieces and nephews, and cherished friends who meant the world to him. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, September 10th at Woodmen Valley Chapel, Rockrimmon Campus. In lieu of flowers, memorial funds have been established in his name for Woodmen Valley Chapel and www.Lustgarten.org/GerardMeluso.

I spoke with Gerard several times over the last 18 months. He was an inspiration to my wife, a work associate, who is terminally ill with cancer. We spoke of faith, love, and determination. All things Gerard had in abundance. He helped. That alone is God's power and gift of working through others. Even as I miss him, I celebrate his spirit and kindness.

I had the pleasure of growing up across the street from Gerard and the wonderful Meluso family. Our parents were friends, and Gerard, as well as his sister Anita, babysat for my brother and I. Although we had not been in contact for many years, the memories of the good times our families shared will remain with me always. My thoughts and prayers to Gerard's wife and children, as well as to my good friend Paul, and the rest of the Meluso family.

I just heard about this today. I had not been in touch with Gerard, since high school, but we grew up together in Wyckoff, NJ. He was a great guy and I have lots of great memories of the good times we shared together at each other's houses, at St. ELizabeth's and at Don Bosco.

I just lost my mother this week and know the heartache you must be feeling. My parents were very good friends with Gerard's parents and my mom always liked Gerard and thought well of him.

Please let his brothers and sisters know that I pass on my condolences to them, as well as to you and your family.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

I had the pleasure of working with Gerard in Good Sense Ministry at Woodmen Valley Chapel. He was a kind, supportive mentor a man that was full of grace and it exuded from him. Looking at his kind face brought sorrowful tears to my eyes, but joy to my heart knowing he is in a better place. He will be missed!

Lisa, Grace, Anthony and John,
From the moment we met your family you all blessed our lives in so many ways. Your dad set a loving example of how to love and care for his friends, neighbors and family and will be greatly missed by all of us. Our hearts are heavy for you but all Heaven rejoices as Jesus greets him saying, "Well done, good and faithful servant". You are carried in our hearts as you celebrate the life of this amazing man. We love you, Jeff and Karen Kaiser
