January 9, 2022

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our father, Gilbert Malaquias Sisneros, on January 9, 2022, after a short illness. Gilbert was born on August 2, 1938, to Malaquias and Lucy Sisneros, in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Gilbert grew up in Hotchkiss, Colorado. Gilbert graduated high school from Hotchkiss where he was a multi-sport letterman. He joined the Navy out of high school and served for four years. He then enlisted in the US Army, where he traveled all over the world and served several tours of duty in Vietnam, earning several honors including a bronze star. Gilbert retired from the US Army and went on to become a successful businessman in Colorado Springs and Cripple Creek and was currently the owner and general manager of the Double Eagle Hotel and Casino.

Gilbert had a love for animals, and truly loved his many dogs throughout his life. His current dog Jasper is a beautiful husky whom Gilbert treated like a prince.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen (Sisneros) Wekamp (Russ); siblings Rudy (Tina) Sisneros and Betty (Bill) Chamberlain of Grand Junction; grandsons Michael (Jennifer) Gutierrez of Florissant, Alex (Chelsea) Gutierrez of Twin Lakes, and granddaughter Angel Wekamp of Woodland Park; several nieces and nephews as well as 7 great-grandchildren. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents Malaquias and Lucy Sisneros, brother Donald, son Gilbert E. Sisneros, and stepson Joe Pinson.

Gilbert Sisneros' memorial service will be held on Saturday January 15, 2022 at 3:00pm at River Rock Church located at 4135 Centennial Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80907. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday January 19, 2022, at 1:00pm at Fairview Cemetery located at 1000 S. 26th St., Colorado Springs, CO 80904.

Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Gilbert to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, 1235 S. Clark St., Arlington, VA 22202 – (202) 393-0090

Like so many others you have taught me about life. You were my mentor and had such a huge impact on the person I am today. It hurts but as you said I am like you and I will just work until the hurt lessens. I have always just wanted you to be proud of the person you help me become and I hope that I can honor you in that way. I am greatful that I had the opportunity to have you as my second family. I am gonna get it together and push on. Saying that I am gonna miss you is an understatement. Good bye boss until we meet again. I know you are looking down on me and all of us. I love you rest in peace.

My deepest condolences and prayers to all of Gilbert's family. He and I had chances to share life experiences and laughs. It is because of him and the way he treated staff and employees that I stayed at the Double Eagle. I always felt welcome and appreciated. I will miss him deeply.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the family. Heartfelt prayers to you all during this time.

Gilbert taught me so much about life, lessons I will hold dear and never forget. He always gave me confidence that I could do anything and then pushed me to do it. He is the man I always went to for advice, be it personal or professional. He had the answers. I will miss him so much. His stories, his advice, his kindness, his compassion. I loved him so. I will take the lessons I learned from him with me forever and make him proud as he watches over us from heaven. Rest now dear soldier. I love you.
