Gladys Miller Obituary

Miller
Gladys Marie
(Postma) Miller
December 26, 1925
September 26, 2022

Born in Platte, South Dakota into a family of 8 children to John and Anna Postma, Gladys grew up on a farm and graduated from Platte High School. Gladys taught school in a one-room schoolhouse for a few years before moving to the big city (Kansas City, MO) with some girlfriends.

In Kansas City, Gladys rented an apartment from Lloyd & Opal Miller who eventually became her In-laws in February 1947 when she married their son, just home from the Navy, Lawrence D. Miller. They were able to celebrate 71 years of marriage before Lawrence passed away in 2018. Gladys and Lawrence lived in KC, had 3 children, eventually moved to Colorado Springs. They had their 4th child in 1960 and raised them all in the 2 bedroom house (luckily it had a full basement where they added bedrooms), the house that Gladys lived in for 67 years. It was a home that Gladys put her heart and soul into, raising her children to know right from wrong, to be honest, and to treat people right, and to know they were truly loved and safe. Besides running a household for 6 people, she tirelessly cooked great home cooked meals, pies, cakes, and cookies, ran the family budget, and found ways to stretch a dollar, so none went lacking or felt slighted.

In what little leisure time there ever was, Gladys enjoyed playing cards with those of all ages, reading, working outside in the yard, sending letters and cards to family and friends, putting puzzles together, family camping trips, going to church, visits with friends and family who lived in the Springs and Denver, traveling to South Dakota and Kansas City for annual or periodic visits with both the Postma and Miller families.

She may not have been as outgoing as some other family members, but she is remembered by family and friends for keeping a well stocked pantry of food, emergency supplies, and a full freezer in the basement, and her home cooked meals. Most remember her as a hard working woman, who was sweet and kind; someone you wanted to be around and looked forward to visiting with the added benefit of enjoying her wonderful rhubarb apple, cherry, etc. pies, cakes, or cookies with coffee or the endless ice tea she always made.

Gladys was preceded in death by all 7 of her siblings, her husband, and her son, Larry Miller. She is survived by her daughter Janice (Steve) Doyle, son Galen (Lois), son Brian (Carman), daughter-in-law Martha, 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 10 at Memorial Gardens Cemetary & Funeral Home, 3825 Airport Road, Colo Spgs. 10am Viewing, 11am Funeral Service, 12pm Committal and Reception.

In lieu of flowers, Gladys requested donations to Roswell Community Church, 2728 Beacon, Colo Spgs 80907.
