Glen Guthrie Obituary

Glen passed away on December 7, 2008 while in Hospice care. Glen was born January 27, 1925 in Burlington, Colorado and was the youngest of six children. Fresh out of high school, Glen served his country during WWII. He was among the naval forces that fought at Iwo Jima and the Battle of Leyte Gulf. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and returned to Burlington where he met the love of his life, Ruth McCallum. They were married in May of 1945 and celebrated 59 anniversaries. In December of 1955, their son, Mark, was born. Glen retired from the U. S. Postal Service in 1985 after 32 years of service in Colorado Springs. Glen is survived by his wife, Ruth; son, Mark, and daughter-in-law, Cheryl. He is also survived by grandsons, Travis (Samantha) and Tyler; great grandsons, Timmy and Isaac, and a great granddaughter, Shayla Lynn, to be born in April 2009. At Glen's request, no services will be held, but we know that every life he touched will remember him as a person who always had a kind word, an infectious smile and a true concern for his fellow man.

Aunt Ruth, Mark, Cheryl and all,
What can I say? He was the most fab uncle that a girl could ever have! He always made me feel like a million dollars. I'd get so excited to see him, he was my own personal movie star. I loved his stories and his smile that lit up the world. And those squirrels! My neighbors probably don't think it's so great that the way he loved those wildlife critters affected me so that I follow his lead, but I think it's wonderful.
I'm going to have some fried chicken now, and think of him and that twinkle of his.
I love you all and am sending you much love, always.

Dear Guthrie family,
I'am so sorry to hear about uncle Glen. I have great memories, One that stands out the most is , he made me a set of cowboy boots lamps with my name on the base. I would turn the lights on and off for hours, My dad would yell and say KNOCK IT OFF!. He was also our mailman in blackforest. I would ride my dirt bike side by side with his scout on the the dirt roads He would always ask how the family was , And always had a smile. My grandfather Gene Guthrie was uncle Glens brother. My grandfather would tell me stories about Uncle Glens wwII navy days. My father also was in the navy [seabees].That might be the reason why my father had so much respect for him. Aunt Ruth, Mark, And to the Guthrie family GOD BLESS, I'am so sorry for your loss.
