Glenn Frank Obituary

Frank
Glenn Marvin
Frank
September 21, 2024

Glenn Marvin Frank was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1940 and passed away on September 21, 2024, surrounded by his family at home in Colorado Springs. Glenn died from a rapid onset of acute myeloid leukemia. He was a young spirited 83-year-old, and his passing feels far too soon. Glenn's life was defined by compassion, loyalty, adventure, and a deep dedication to family, community, and his profession.
As a veterinarian, Dr. Frank touched the lives of countless families and their pets in Colorado Springs, where he established the Yorkshire Veterinary Clinic and served the community for nearly 50 years. His commitment to animal welfare extended to his work with the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, where he proudly served on the Board of Directors for 17 years. In 1999, Glenn was honored with the Volunteer of the Year Award for his contributions to the design of their current facility. Glenn also served in the US Air Force as both an active- duty and reserve officer. His service work extended far beyond his profession, with volunteer roles through church and participation in neighborhood and city road committees.
Glenn's love for life was evident in the multitude of activities he embraced. In his younger years, he was a water sports enthusiast, excelling as a competitive swimmer, lifeguard on the Great Lakes, water skier, and scuba diver. After moving to Colorado, he became an avid skier and outdoorsman, who twice ran the Pikes Peak Marathon. In the early 1980s, Glenn was part of a group that invested their time and money in an attempt to revive the dormant Pikes Peak Ski Area. Glenn found peace and joy in nature, building trails and landscapes around his home. He was also known to enjoy a good political discussion.
Glenn and his wife, Karen, were married for more than 61 years, sharing adventures that took them around the world—from their early years living in Turkey to travels throughout Europe, South America, and the United States, including a memorable three-month trip to Alaska. At home, Glenn's love for animals was always present. The family was known for their menagerie of pets, each cared for with the same kindness Glenn showed in his veterinary practice.
Glenn is survived by his loving wife, Karen; daughters, Pamela and Julie; son-in-law, Ben; and beloved grandchildren, Ethan and Malia; as well as many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey; parents, Marvin and Eleanor; and sister, Merilyn.
A private family service will be held at First Lutheran Church, with a celebration of life planned for a future date.
In tribute to Glenn's love for nature and the community, the Frank family suggests donations to:
First Lutheran Church, to contribute to the planting of a memorial flowering plum tree: flccs.net/give (on drop-down menu choose "Current Operating Fund," then "Memorial Fund Gifts")
Or to your favorite animal charity

What a great person Glenn Frank was. My sister interned at his veterinary practice not long after he established it. I got to tag along and watch some veterinary care practices & surgeries. He was the vet for our pets for many years. Rest in peace Dr. Frank.

Just heard about this. I worked for Dr Frank for several years. A kind and caring man. I was so lucky to have known him. He practiced what he preached.
