Gloria Elder Obituary

Gloria Lee Cousins Elder was born in Memphis, TN on February 14, 1936. Gloria was the baby girl of Henry Benjamin Cousins and Annie Louise Weekly. Because she was the baby girl, her family nicknamed her "Wee-baby." Her grandchildren affectionately knew her as Big Mama. She attended LaRose Elementary School, and Booker T. Washington High School. Gloria Loved the Lord, and the Lord loved her. She was ordained as a licensed minister in 1983 at The Greater Beacon Light Baptist Church. Gloria will be immensely missed by all who loved her. She was preceded in death by both her parents, her brother, Henry Benjamin Cousins, Jr. and one sister, Ann Louise Cloyd. She is survived by her daughters; Elaine "Rose" Thomas of Colorado Springs, CO; Gloria Jean "Bonnie" Elder of Aurora, CO; Savannah Marie (Troy) Jackson, of Colorado Springs, CO; James Elder, III (Gwen) of Orange Park, FL; Angela Renee (Kevan) Chester and Betty Janiece Elder, both of Glen Burnie, MD; and John Anthony Elder of Colorado Springs, CO; twelve grandchildren; Savannah R. Hampton, Imani Abdul Rasheed, Montae A. Elder, Stephanie Y. Elder, Ariesa L. Esnault, Myron Dishaun Bradford, James Elder IV, Aaron J. M. Thomas, Robert L. Moore, Jr, Antoine L. Chester, Chanet D. Elder and Vanessa R. E. Thomas; her sisters: Betty Somerville of Colorado Springs, CO, and Charlene Tuggle of Ladue, MO; Her brother Keith Cousins of Los Angeles, CA; 27 great grandchildren and a host of in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Visitation will be held at Angelus Chapel Funeral Directors, 2535 Airport Rd, Colorado Springs, CO 80910 on Wednesday June 14, 2006 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. The Funeral Service will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church, One South Walnut St, Colorado Springs, CO 80905 Thursday, June 15, 2006 at 11:00 AM. She will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs, CO. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gloria Lee Elder Fund at any branch of Addison Avenue Federal Credit Union.
