Gloria Ines Hernan-Gomez Young passed away peacefully on May 31, 2024. She was 89 years old.
Gloria was born April 20th, 1935 in Guadarrama, Spain, near Madrid. She was the youngest of eight siblings and her family struggled with many challenges during the Spanish Civil War.
She studied in England in the 1950s and would return to Spain where she met her first husband, Tommie Young, at Torrejon Air Base in Madrid. Gloria would eventually divorce Tommie and marry Jim Lannom. This marriage also ended in divorce and Gloria raised three sons as a single mom.
Gloria was a free-spirit. She lived life on her terms and had a strong and colorful personality. She was a professional artist, painting portraits throughout the U.S. and Spain, and selling custom sketches and oil paintings in Colorado Springs for over 30 years. One of her paintings, "The Virgin of Guadalupe", resides in St. Mary's Cathedral in Colorado Springs.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband Tommie Young, her parents Vicente and Maria Hernan-Gomez, three brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by her three sons and their wives, Thomas and Lori Young, David and Denise Young and Luis and Verta Young; five grandchildren, Bryce, Blake, Owen, Christian and Victor and her ex-husband Jim.
There will be a memorial service July 15, 2024 at 10:00 am at Holy Apostles Church in Colorado Springs.
