Grace Romnes Obituary

Grace Isabel Romnes, age 101, went home to be with her Lord on March 19, 2010. Grace was born April 3, 1908 to Maude Jaynes Parrhysius and Otto Parrhysius in St. Paul, Minnesota. On May 23, 1931 she married Elwin Nelson "Doc" Romnes, a professional United States Hall of Fame hockey player and coach. As a result of her husband's career, Grace lived in Chicago, New York, Kansas City, St. Paul and Colorado Springs, CO. She resided in Grand Junction for the past seven and a half years. Grace enjoyed music, especially playing the piano, with her favorite pieces being "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace." She also enjoyed writing poetry and playing bridge. She possessed a lively sense of humor and wit. While living in Colorado Springs, Grace volunteered in kindergarten classes as a "Grandfriend". Grace is survived by her daughters, Jeanne Sisson (William) of Grand Junction, CO and Virginia G. Hansen (Donald) of Colorado Springs, CO. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Julie Lind (Alan, Castle Rock; Brett Benzel (Luba), Glenwood Springs; Jeff Hansen, Snowmass Village; Scott Hansen, Grand Junction; step grandchildren, Mindy Sisson Spires (Tony), Gypsum; William Todd Sisson, Grand Junction; Michelle Sisson of Grand Junction and 12 great grandchildren. Grace was preceded in death by her husband, parents and her sister, Adelaide H. Knowlton of St. Paul, Minnesota. The family would like to thank the staff and the nurses of Larchwood Inns for their loving care, there Grace resided for the past five years. We all will miss our "Amazing Grace". A private family service will be held in Colorado Springs, CO at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, 3090B North 12th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81506 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
