Gregory Sikorsky Obituary

A few years ago, my family ran in our first Tunnel to Towers 5k. (Columbia, SC). We ran in honor of Gregory Sikorsky. We found his name on the memorial wall when in NYC a few years ago.

Hi we have just been to visit the 9/11 memorial from the uk to pay our respects.Just happened to notice a dragonfly on Gregory´s 4th July flag so just thought we ought to share it.What an absolute hero doing what he did in the name of good!! People across the world remember where they were on that terrible day and knew just how brave all the firefighters and other emergency services were!! With love from the uk Gary&Natalie

Greg, you are forever a hero...always loved, missed and remembered.

Thinking of you Greg can't believe it's been 20 years on awful day it seems like yesterday that we were playing outside in the yard together our family and your family. We met through our parents and lived down the roads from your house and the gas station. On East Willow tree road.

We send our continued deep sympathy to your family. May God's support and the many warm thoughts of those who care be of comfort to you. Greg touched many lives and will always be fondly remembered.

I met Gregs father George at Lake George, NY one year after 9/11. He told me all about Greg and his other sons. I promised I would call him EVERY year on 9/11 to let him know I had lit one candle for Greg and one for all the firefighters of NY. I have fulfilled that promise for the last 17 years and will continue always. My candles burn ALL day and are a symbol of my gratitude and remembrance to all that fateful day. My candles burn this day, Mr Sikorsky, all the way from Evergreen, Colorado to you and your family in NY. I will NEVER forget

Ich denke oft an dich.

I was just thinking about you. I want to know I love you and I will never forget you.

I recently purchased a grab bag at a local store and one of the items included was a bracelet honoring Gregory. I wanted to let his family know he will never be forgotten.

Almost everyone in the US today remembers exactly where they were and what they were doing that morning in 2001. I remember sitting in class going to school to be a firefighter while we all watched on tv in disbelief. Our instructor told us the fire service would never be the same and he was right. I made a promise that day to never forget.

Today I joined 342 other firefighters in Kansas City, to honor the members of FDNY who made the ultimate sacrifice at the WTC. I had the honor and privilege of putting on my turnouts and SCBA to carry a picture of Gregory up 110 stories and ring the bell in his name.

From what I've read, Gregory sounds like someone I would have gotten along very well with and I wish I could have met him in person. The picture of 3 year old Steven riding in the Mack truck really got to me as I have a 4 year old Son myself.

To Marie, Steven and the rest of the family, I hope you are all well. Know that you are still in my prayers, and even 12 years later Gregory continues to touch people's lives all across the country. There are literally millions of us in the fire service who are honored to call him our Brother, and will make sure Gregory as well as his story and family are never forgotten. God Bless you!

Today my nephew climbs 110 floors in memory and honor of Gregory Sikorsky. Brian is a firefighter in Gilford, NH and could think of no better way to honor his fallen brother. Greg's memory lives on...

If it's the same person I think, I believe I went to grade school with Greg (Sacred Heart, Class of 1981). I didn't know him very well back then and it's been years since we even thought of each other, I'm sure. Ironically, I worked at WTC for 10 years and was there on 9/11. For all I know, Greg could have been instrumental in saving my life that day. I'll never know. God Bless.

To The Sikorsky family I am very sorry for your loss. I grew up in Rockland went to St.Boniface with your family. I also went to Sacred Heart with Perry. Greg was a great guy an older brother figure to me and my frind Deanna Sawitsky. I had heard that your family lost Greg. I was told by my step brother Rich Galante. I can remember the bus ride to school each day passing your home with the big S on it and the family gas station. Both my husband, brother and brother in law are police officers and I am very proud of them as I know you were of Greg. Greg and I became friends a few weeks before high school graduation. I remember feeling a little sad at the time, wishing I had gotten to know him sooner. I knew our high school days were coming close to an end and that life was about to take us both in different directions. I remember one day during final exams, he drove me home as I had missed my bus. He barely knew me, but he went out of his way to help me out. I don't recall if I ever saw him again. Greg had the kind of personality that made you feel like a good friend even if you had just met him. He was a special person and touched the lives of many.

I am a friend of Mary and Tom Cinotti-Engine 46 and have been able to hear all the wonderful memories they have shared with Greg and his family. Greg and his family are in my prayers daily, along with my brother, Captain Fred Ill, of Ladder 2, and all the other victims of this vicious attack.

I am thankful that my brother is in such good company in Heaven, until we see them again!

i wear a band with his name. each day it reminds me that love and family are the most important things in life. i did not know greg or any of the victims of 9/11, but i still cry for the pain and suffering that began for us all that day. i take some comfort that the terrorists achieved the opposite of their intentions: we have become stronger, closer, more human and more appreciative of our gifts and freedom. and we have learned that people like greg are the true heroes.

Your entry in the guestbook of Gordon Aamoth, dated February 10, 2002, took my breath away. It was at that moment that i truly understood the profound pain that the families of the victims are experiencing. While i believe that time heals many hurts, the depth of sorrow that you all are carrying cannot be erased with the passage of time.



Your son was truly a hero.

I lived in Rockland County until August of 2000. I worked for Ramapo Highway Department for 10 years. I knew Greg from guys I worked with that were firemen with Hillcrest. I always liked Greg, he was alot of fun and down to earth, he will be missed. God Bless you Greg.

I just received my bracelet honoring Greg. It will be my privilege and honor to wear it proudly. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of this American hero.

I received my bracelet today and immediately got online to learn more about the firefighter I've been designated to honor. I am proud to wear Greg's bracelet on my duty days as a firefighter/paramedic for the city of East Liverpool, OH. Greg and his brothers died for a very important cause. My heartfelt sorrows go out to his family and honoring Greg by wearing this bracelet is the least I can do.

We want to extend our deepest sympathies to Greg's family. We will never make sense of this horrendous act of evil - evil that took the best from us. But evil has not -and will never-triumph. Greg touched many many lives in his short time on Earth and those he touched are better for having known him. Our hearts go out to you in your sorrow and we pray God will Grant you strength and peace.

His integrity and way of life represents the best of America and in some ways it is appropriate that he had a part in ending terrorism in this world. I recieved my 9-11 bracelet today and immediately wanted to know more about Gregory. Its funny how God works sometimes, I too am a licensed pilot and a dog lover. I am the mother of a 10 month old son. Someday we will explain the horrible events of September 11th, 2001 to him. We will tell him of the great heros that gave their lives. Gregory being one of them. I hope my son grows up with just half the character that I know Gregory had. God Bless you all. Gregory now flys on the wings of eagles with God as his co-pilot.

I purchased one of the 911 bracelets and just happened to get Gregory's name on it. I mentioned that I wish I knew more about this person. Thanks Gregory for all you and your fellow firefighters and policemen did. I am so glad I found this page.

I grew up knowing the entire sikorsky family, as we lived half a mile from their gas station. What a wonderful family, what a terrible loss, but a tremendous legacy. Your fellow Marines will avenge that horrible day.

However, nine months after your terrible loss, Greg is the face I think of when I recall the heroes of September 11th and you are the family my heart goes out to.

From the first day I got in Hillcrest you were always there for me. From teaching me about being a new firefighter to teaching me to fly, drive and pump the trucks. I learned from the best and as long as I am a firefighter, I will always take the time to teach and treat my brother and sister firefighters as you did, with patience, understanding, fairness and compassion. Helping me on a moments notice with fire prevention when I was the fire prevention officer. The kids loved when you brought Dominick along and the attention and respect you gave them. And I will never forget all the little things we did, like eating pizza before maintenance on the backstep of the trucks...watering your shrubs as part of my driving test...painting the hydrant markers at 2 in the morning...helping me with projects I started on my cars that I always ran into a problem with...meeting at the gas station to chat at 6 in the morning.

I miss you sorely. Rest in peace, brother.

It has been said that a man can be judged by the company he keeps.

A man, devoted to his wife and son, a man who loves his dog, who has served his country and spends time with his loved ones is a man to be honored for who he was. You were a man who chose some very excellent company.

As a man who was a member of New York's bravest, the FDNY; you also chose some very distinguished and honorable company in your profession. A profession we Americans all learned about on September 11, 2001. A profession only for the bravest heroes before September 11, and certainly after.

Six months later... we think of Greg often and it is with a deep sense of sadness and loss that we extend our condolences to the Sikorsky family.



We consider ourselves fortunate to have known Greg and will never forget when he brought his young son over to meet us. He was absolutely beaming with pride.

We are deeply saddened. Gregory was like a member of our family, since he was a teenager. A terrible, terrible loss.
