Gundi Hayes Obituary

September 11, 1938 - July 26, 2008 Gundi S. Hayes, age 69, passed away July 26, 2008, at Swedish Medical Center in Denver. She was born in Grevesmühlen, Germany, on September 11, 1938, to Nikolai and Ellinor (Baumann) Busch. As a teenager she escaped from East Germany along with her family. Gundi was a resident of Colorado Springs since 1973. She lived in Minnesota prior to 1973. She was an active member of the Good Luck Sams RV organization. The highlight of her year was her annual "snowbird" trip to Tucson, Arizona. She also enjoyed photography, maintaining her many photo albums, watching birds, and spending time in the great outdoors. She was proud of being a contributing member of the work force for many years and retired from being a metrologist with TRW. Gundi married William C. "Buck" Hayes on June 23, 2001, and immediately welcomed his family as her own. She was previously married to Gerald F. "Jerry" Estlick who preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Buck; her son, Michael Estlick; and three daughters: Susanne Harrelson, Dawne Harrison, and Jacqueline Zimowski. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29th at the Shrine of Remembrance. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

Gundi was a jewel in everyone's crown. She was full of laughter, a giving spirit, and she nutured those around her in a very special way. My brother Buck spent 7 quality years with Gundi during their short marriage. Gundi was a loving sister in law. Our family is deeply saddened when she left us as Gundi had many years ahead to spread her loving energy with those who knew her. Our deepest sympathies to the family.
