Gustave Mundt Obituary

Gus Mundt was born on March 25, 1926 in Pueblo, Colorado, the sixth of eight children to Anna Simonich Mundt and Herman Mundt. He attended school there until he joined the Navy in March 1944. Mr. Mundt passed away June 6, 2011. After leaving the Navy in June 1946 at the end of World War II, Gus joined the Army Air Corp, precursor of the United States Air Force. Gus retired from the Air Force in March 1967 as a Chief Master Sergeant and began working at Colorado College, retiring from there in 1988. During that time he earned his BA with honors from Colorado College in 1972 and his Masters from the University of Northern Colorado in 1975. Gus is survived by his wife of 61 years, Maxine Jurjens Mundt and his six children, Gustave Jr., Susan Gegan (John), Anna Witt (Tom), Judith Baker (Stephen), Joel Mundt (Leona), and Amanda Mundt, 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are Gus' siblings Nancy Toledo (John), Henry, Herman and Delbert Mundt. Preceding him in death are brothers Kenneth and Dennis Mundt, sisters Delores Carpenter and Helen Mundt and a grandson Eli Baker. Gus' idea of paradise was a day on the Arkansas River with his spinning rod in his hand and a six-pack in the cooler. Until the past few years Gus enjoyed daily walks with his dog Fritz. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 10, 2011 at Shove Memorial Chapel, 1010 N. Nevada Ave. in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the American Cancer Fund.

Thanks for loving my bestest friend Erin. You were a great support to her, and gave her a safe place to blossom into a wonderful woman! Thanks for letting us teenage gals take over your house on SO many weekends-filling the house with songs from Grease and taking over the bathroom! Thanks for the rides to hockey games and home from school...Most of all thanks for your time and for sharing your wisdom (even when I was on your "list"). Rest in peace.
