Guy Gattuso Obituary

Guy J. Gattuso 1920 - 2011 Guy J. Gattuso, 91, Punxsutawney, died Saturday, December 24, 2011, in Asheville, N.C. He was born January 2, 1920, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Longo) Gattuso. He was a member of Saints Cosmas and Damian Roman Catholic Church. Mr. Gattuso was a veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. He was a member of the American Legion John Jacob Fisher Post No. 62, the Robinson-Morrison Post of the VFW and the Punxsutawney Senior Center. For a number of years, he was a regular member of the Polka Club. A former coal miner, Mr. Gattuso was retired from the B&O Railroad, later the Chessie System, as a brakeman and conductor. He was an avid baseball (Pittsburgh Pirates) and football (Pittsburgh Steelers) fan. Mr. Gattuso enjoyed college football as well. He was interested in stamps and coins and passed this interest on to his children. Surviving relatives include a son, Guy Gattuso Jr., Esq., and wife Debra of Bakersfield, Ca.; two daughters, Karen Mentz and husband Ronald of Erie, and Dr. Suzanne Gattuso and husband Dr. Terence Fitzgerald of Mills River, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Katharine Neckers, David Mentz, Natalie Gattuso, Guy Joseph Gattuso, Mia Fitzgerald, Zachary Fitzgerald and Zoe Fitzgerald; a brother, Samuel Gattuso and wife Betty of Punxsutawney; and a brother-in-law, Bill Pride of Punxsutawney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Angeline Pride. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, January 2, 2012, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at Saints Cosmas & Damian Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Joseph Riccardo officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. Family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Solace Center Care Partners, P.O. Box 5979, Asheville, N.C. 28813 or to the Punxsutawney Senior Center, 203 Pine Street, Punxsutawney, P.A. 15767. Graveside services will be conducted by the Jefferson County Veterans Honor Guard. www.bakersfield.com/obits
