H. Fisher Obituary

H. Calvin Fisher, MD July 7, 1910-July 13, 2006. Calvin Fisher, 96, of Colorado Springs passed away on July 13, 2006. He was born July 7, 1910 to Herbert George and Lillian (Shafer) Fisher in Denver, CO. He married Yvonne Jallad on July 16, 1989. Calvin graduated from Cornell Medical College in 1935 and did his internship at St. Luke's Hospital in Denver. He was a resident in Surgery at the University of Minnesota and the Mayo Clinic from 1936-1940. He served as the Chief of Medical Service at Brooke General Hospital from 1941-1945. At that time he was assigned to General MacArthur's Headquarters in the Philippine Islands and was Chief of Surgical Services in the 315th General Hospital at Batangao. After his military service, Dr. Fisher served in private practice until 1975 when he retired. During his career he served as Associate Professor at Colorado Medical School, was chief of Staff at Denver General Hospital and Chief of Surgical Service at Children's Hospital in Denver. After he retired, Dr. Fisher co-founded the Lake City Medical Center and was appointed by the Governor to the position of Judge in Hinsdale County in 1977. He contributed many medical articles and editorials to professional journals and wrote two books, "You Are About to Have an Operation" and "A Hole in the Heart". Dr. Fisher is survived by his wife, Yvonne and his children Fred, Barbara and Tom. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Patricia. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, August 18, 2006 at 11AM at Grace Episcopal Church.
