Harold Griswold Obituary

Mr. Griswold 87, a longtime resident of Colorado Springs, passed away on May 3. Harold was born in Natoma, Kansas to Willa and Harry Griswould. He graduated in 1939 from Arlington H.S., Arlington CO. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1941 and later served in the USAF. He retired after 22 years. During WWII, Harold served in the Air Offensive Europe, Normandy, Northern France, Reinland, Ardennes and central Europe specializing in Air Communications and Electronics Engineering. In the USAF, Harold supervised squadrons and detachments in Germany, Korea and Japan. During his career in the service Harold was presented with several commendations and medals. Including the Air Force Longevity Service Award with 4 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters. After retiring in 1963, Harold worked for Ling-Temco-Vought Inc. located at NORAD Combat Operational Center in Cheyenne Mountain. From 1966 to 1968, Harold again served his country as a civilian working for Philco Ford ADMSC as a site manager in Nha Trang, Vietnam. In 1975, he retired from the Electrical Department of the City of Colorado Springs. Harold married Sigrid M. Fischer on August 24, 1949 in Herbstein, Germany. They were married for 58 years during which they had four children. Harold was preceded in death by his wife Sigrid; son Derek; brothers Roy and Ray, sister Pathena Watts and grandson Clay Hadley. Harold is survived by brother Floyd (Phyllis), sister Betty Watts; sister-in-law Virglyn, son H. Hays, daughters S. Michelle France (Scott) and Robin G. Hadley (Tim Lewis); grandchildren H. Hansen (Amy), Vanessa Murphy (Cody), Duran Harris, Kimberly Silber (Rob), Bret France, Allyson Hadley and six great-grand children. Harold enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family, spending time at the family cabin near Fairplay, and dancing with his beautiful wife. He shared wonderful stories of ranching in south eastern Colorado. He was a quiet man with a clever, dry, sense of humor and a quick wit. We will miss him. Services will be held at Fairview Cemetery 1000 South 26th Street, Colorado Springs on Tuesday May 19, at 2:00 p.m. Celebration of his life will follow at 1223 Whitehouse Drive.
