Harold Krieg "Bing" Hastings Jr., a resident of Heritage Oaks of Conroe, Texas, passed away Thursday, April 3, 20 surrounded by his family. Bing was born in Wheeling, WV. March 13, 1932. He was the son of Harold Krieg "Zeb" Hastings and Lucille "Luke" Aul Hastings. On August 1, 1957 he married Sallie Clare Dollman also of Wheeling. They celebrated 54 years of marriage until Sallie's passing in June of 2012. Bing and Sallie are survived by five children: Becky Severino and husband Sam of Elkins, WV; Ruth Donovan and husband Wes of Pittsburgh, PA; Rob Hastings of Tucson, AZ; Stuart Hastings and wife Lori of Beaumont, TX and Nancy Crow and husband Jed of Montgomery, TX. Bing also had seven grandchildren that he loved dearly: Dustin Donovan and wife Beth, Justine McCray and husband Nathan, Leah Donovan, Anthony Severino, Jacob Stickler and wife Shelby, Jessica Stickler, and Patrick Donovan. He has one great-granddaughter Lillie Grace Markert and a great-grandson McCray on the way. Bing had three step-grandchildren: James Crow, Jerrett White and Taylor Perio. He is survived by his brother Charles A. Hastings, sister, Sally Foehl and a host of many loving relatives and friends. Bing had a colorful childhood and lived in many parts of the country. He attended Linsley Institute and Mercersburg Academy. He continued his education at WVU and graduated from West Virginia Business School. Bing was a passionate, committed salesman. After working for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel and Atlas Bradford, Bing was an independent sales representative in the oil and gas industry, retiring at age 79. Bing served as a Sergeant Major in the US Army during the Korean War, yet his greatest pride was his service in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, holding the position of Rear Commodore, Central 8 Coastal Region. He worked tirelessly for 33 years with Flotilla 69 to help develop a strong and consistent Coast Guard presence on Lake Conroe. Bing believed in committed service and dedicated his time proudly. Bing also gave his time to "The Gathering Place" from 2006-2013. He attended as a dedicated caregiver for Sallie and later became a volunteer and a care partner in their memory care ministry. He happily gave his time to others who lived with Alzheimer's disease. Bing was a member of First United Methodist Church of Conroe and a part of the Seekers class. Bing will be remembered for his love of music, maps and reading and his ability to identify aircraft by the sound of the engine. He was a true upstanding gentleman, but loved a good joke! He didn't know a stranger-especially if he thought you may be from West Virginia and opened his home and his heart to many. Bing and Sallie created a tight, loving family committed to one another and to the memories of their parents. Celebration of life will be held Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 4:00pm at First United Methodist Church in Conroe. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to The Gathering Place, care of First United Methodist Church Conroe, 4308 West Davis St., Conroe TX 77304(936)756-3395 or to the United States Coast Guard Mutual Assistance800-881-2462. Sorry to hear the sad news. Bing was an excellent example of what it means to be one of "America's Volunteer Lifesavers." I hope to meet up with him again someday.

Dear Hastings Family,
I am so sorry to hear of your beloved dad's passing. He was loyal, kind, smart and so funny. He always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eyes. I was always so comfortable playing with Nancy at your home on Tara Park, even with all these kids running in and out. :-)
He was dedicated to your loving mother, always. I hope you all feel peace knowing they are reunited in Heaven and both are now healthy & whole. God bless you all during your time of grief and always.
Much love XO

I met Sally and Bing as a volunteer for the Gathering. They were lovely people and when they found out my husband and I had spent 18 years in St. Albans, WV, we immediately had a close connection. They were wonderful dancers and loved to dance at the Gathering. I will miss them both dearly and carry good memories of them in my heart. Shirley O'Daniel
