Harold Spurlock was born March 9, 1938 in Salyersville, Kentucky to Lester Spurlock and Nell Patrick Triplett and passed away May 21, 2022 in Pueblo, Colorado.
He is survived by his wife Barbara of nearly 56 years, daughter Christy Draper and son-in-law Chad Draper, and grandchildren Avery and Chisum Draper, sister Glenna Stemen, sister-in-law Betty Spurlock, sister and brother-in-law Bonita and Carl Birkel, sister and brother-in-law Barrie and Brad Fearn, nephews and nieces, Tim Spurlock, Tom Spurlock, Jill Tangeman, Justin Fearn, Lindsay Gladman and Karla Birkel.
He is preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, brother B. Carson Spurlock, and his father and mother-in-law Chester and Ula Leedy.
As a young boy, Harold moved from Kentucky to Ohio where he later excelled in sports at New Boston High School. He was a member of the basketball team that went onto undefeated seasons and championships. He was class president both his junior and senior years of high school. Harold received a basketball scholarship to The Ohio State University. An athletic injury prevented him from going on with basketball, but he later lettered in soccer at OSU. He was a member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity and graduated from OSU in 1961.
He began his teaching career at Fredericktown Schools where he taught for 22 years. He coached basketball, football, and track. Harold was most proud of the successes of his basketball teams. He had a strong and positive influence on the lives of many young people as a teacher and coach.
He married Barbara on July 9, 1966. Daughter Christy, completed their family. Harold was so proud of Christy and her many accomplishments in her life. He was very involved in Christy's activities including: soccer, 4-H, Rangerettes, horse shows and high school and college lacrosse. He was also proud of her marriage to Chad and of his grandchildren Avery and Chisum. He loved them all so much.
Harold and Barbara enjoyed traveling in the Colorado mountains and throughout the West including Hawaii and Alaska. They spent many winters in Arizona. For many years, Harold enjoyed visiting with friends at the Rosebud. He loved his horses and enjoyed helping with cattle on the ranches of: Draper, Snare, Roberts, Moore, Dilley, Reid, Rednor, Gordon and McConnell. This was a life well-lived and well-loved.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 15th at 11:00 am at Pathfinder Regional Park and Event Center, 6655 CO-115, Florence, CO 81226
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the FHS Alumni Scholarship Fund. Knox County Foundation, P.O. Box 309, Mt. Vernon, OH 43050. Mention Ula Weller Leedy/Harold Spurlock Scholarship on the memo line of the check.
