Harriet Brundin Obituary

On Sunday, November 6, 2005, Harriet Eleanor (Boyer) Brundin passed away at St. Francis Hospice at the age of 82 from complications surrounding neck surgery and pneumonia. She is survived by two daughters: Judith A. Brundin of Weehawken, New Jersey and Barbara L. Brundin of Vail, Colorado; and by one grandchild, Barbara's daughter, Vanessa B. Hyndman. Harriet was born into prominent German and French families in Columbus, OH, on June 2, 1923. She graduated from Ohio State University in 1945 with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts and shortly thereafter married Robert (Bob) H. Brundin, a recent West Pointe graduate and a Swedish native of Glenwood, Minnesota. Harriet was devoted to her college sorority, Pi Beta Phi throughout her lifetime. Bob's Air Force career took them to Okinawa where he served following World War II. From there the couple was stationed in Ohio, New York (West Pointe), Alabama, California and Colorado where Bob directed the chemistry and physics department at the U.S. Air Force Academy (1962). The family moved to the Broadmoor area in 1966 when Bob retired as a Colonel. The couple was very active as sports enthusiasts and accomplished skiers, horseback riders, and tennis and golf players. They maintained memberships at The Broadmoor, Garden of the Gods Club, and Cheyenne Mountain Country Club. Harriet pursued her life-long work as an artist and painter, presenting many gallery shows in Colorado Springs over decades. The couple maintained an active membership at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. She and Bob traveled extensively, visiting exotic locales including Antarctica, Alaska, Singapore, Europe and South America. Upon Bob's death in 1994 she meet Wayne Mackin who was her beloved companion for eight years. No trip was more monumental to Harriet than her 2004 visit to Washington, D.C., to attend President George W. Bush's fund raising events. Being a life-long Republican, she met the president as she supported his subsequent successful re-election campaign. A public viewing will take place from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 11, 2005 at Swan-Law Funeral Home, 501 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs. The burial will be next to Bob at the U. S. Air Force Academy Cemetery, and a Memorial Service will take place at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 12, 2005 at the USAFA Cadet Protestant Chapel just north of Colorado Springs. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, 30 West Dale Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.

Harriet was a delightful hostess and shared many fun times with my Father. Neither wanted any grass to grow under their feet as they traveled, visited with friends and danced. Life is precious, too short, and meant to be lived. Harriet left some great artwork and I'm so pleased to have a special piece in our home in Decatur, GA. Thanks, Harriet.
