Dr. Harry James Anderson Jr. passed away peacefully in his sleep Wednesday morning, April 23, 2025 after living 80 wonderful and full years on this Earth. As many know, he battled interstitial pulmonary fibrosis for four years before leaving the world exactly as he wanted to be by the side of his wife of 31 years, Nancy Victoria "Vicki" Anderson, and his parents, Kathryn Emblen Anderson and Dr. Harry James Anderson Sr. His last days were spent with family, making homemade ice cream, hiding Easter eggs for a hunt with his grandson, and celebrating life with a family dinner. He is survived by his daughter, Erin, son-in-law Brent, stepchildren, Heather and Tadd, grandchildren Jack, Kinsey, Tanner, Tucker, and Jed, great-granddaughter Adelaide, and cousin Faye.
Andy, as almost everyone called him, grew up most of his young life in Wheeling, West Virginia before attending college at West Virginia University. He was very academically focused and decided on the path of medicine, starting medical school at West Virginia University. He spent 49 years in pediatric medicine, an impressive tenure impacting lives that spanned his residency at Washington University, St. Louis Children's Hospital, Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center and a fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital and Harvard University. Not only was Andy a well respected doctor, but he was also a military officer with the Army. He spent 13 years serving his country in the Army, before retiring at the rank of Lt. Colonel. After military retirement, Andy opened a pediatric private practice in the Colorado where he saw patients over generations. People that he saw as children began to bring their children and grandchildren to see him.
Dr. Anderson was passionate about everything this world had to offer and had a verve for life. Andy was very fond of hunting for collectable pieces like first edition books, historical maps of the US and world, antique furniture, and unique crystal stemware and sneaking them into the house when nobody was looking. What Andy loved the most, above all other things, was his family and friends. He took care and looked after those he loved and the person he adored the most was Vicki. He married the love of his life in 1994 and together they enjoyed traveling and experiencing new cultures, eating wonderful meals, having intellectual conversations on a variety of topics, learning to cook new delicacies, gardening in their backyard, and spending time together with their family. His love fills our hearts and even though he is gone, we can still feel the love and hear his quirky jokes and laugh at the kitchen table. He is tremendously missed but we are happy he is reunited with Vicki and finally free and in peaceful rest.
A celebration of life will be held in Colorado Springs, Saturday, June 21, 1-3 pm at the family home. Please bring your favorite framed photo of you with Andy, Vicki, or with both of them.

Dr. Anderson was the best. He loved what he did. I took my son to his office for his check-ups and he could just brighten a room. He will be missed. Sending blessings and prayers to your family.

Dr. Anderson was the Physician Advisor for our El Paso County CPCD Head Start Program for over 25 years. He attended Health Services Advisory Meetings and provided oversight and education to our health staff as well as keeping us up to date on Pediatric Health Issues like vaccines, health care needs and was so valuable during COVID. He enjoyed talking, teaching and answering questions and left our program with a legacy of being involved. I speak for many when I say that we are grateful for his long service with our agency and he will be missed. Rest in peace Dr. Anderson. 96
