Harry McFadden Obituary

Rev. Harry W. "Mac" McFadden went home to be with the Lord on August 4, 2016. He was a chaplain to veterans, a devoted husband and family man, a volunteer and a veteran's advocate.

Harry Walter McFadden was born on January 30, 1949 in Camden, New Jersey. He attended Winslow Elementary School and Edgewood Regional High School, where Joe Theismann was his classmate. He graduated from high school while living in Anchorage Alaska. Mac joined the Army on June 5, 1968 (the day Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated).

He did his basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia and then went to Fort Jackson, South Carolina, Fort Bragg, North Carolina and later, Vietnam.

He had assignments in Germany; Fort Carson, Colorado; Fort Lee, Virginia; and then returned to Anchorage. It was there that he met the love of his life, Judy.

He married Judith Kay. Luetkehans on December 12, 1971. Harry then served in the US Army Reserve from 1973 -1977. He again returned to Fort Carson where he was a mechanical supply clerk.

A man of incredible faith, "Mac" McFadden attended the Nazarene Bible College and was then summoned back into the Army. He went to Fort Monmouth, New Jersey and later completed his Chaplains Training. In 1981, he became a full fledged chaplain and in 1984, he went back to school for his second degree from the Nazarene Bible College. He graduated in 1987. He was a volunteer chaplain at Evans Army Community Hospital at Fort Carson for five years.

After retirement, Chaplain Mac was a sales representative for Red Letter Publishing for twenty years. He was a member of the Christian Knights, the staff of Boys State where he served in ministry and consulting.

He was chaplain for American Legion Posts, Abundant Hope Church of the Nazarene, TREA Chapter 113, the Pikes Peak Veterans Honor Guard, the 3rd ACR, Junior ROTC and was recently the State Chaplain for the American Legion. He was an honorary member of the Purple Heart and was their organization's honorary chaplain for many years. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, but his ministry and evangelism reached well beyond the church.

He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Judy on July 12, 2014.

He is survived by his daughter, Anita (Paul) Esquibel and his granddaughter, Judith M. McFadden (her grandmother's namesake.)

He had no brothers or sisters, and he never knew his biological parents, who abandoned him as an infant.

Visitation, 5:00-7:00PM, Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Abundant Hope Church of the Nazarene, 821 South Royer Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903.

Funeral Service, 10:00AM, Friday, August 12, 2016 at First Church of the Nazarene, 4120 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80916.

There will be a motorcycle procession and motorcade to a luncheon reception and life celebration that will follow at American Legion Post No. 38, 6685 Southmoor Drive, Fountain, Colorado 80817.

Burial with full honors, Fort Logan National Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Boys State in care of the American Legion.

As Chaplain Mac would often say..." I was blessed."
