Hazel Lucke Obituary

Hazel Leona Lucke passed peacefully with all of the family present at home on Dec. 8, 2007. She lost her battle with cancer after many miraculous recoveries over the last 13 years. She was born June 22, 1935 in Mitchell, SD to Ben and Winifred Klinger. Hazel attended country schools around Alexandria, SD and graduated from Alexandria High School in 1953. She received her BS degree in Home Economics in 1957 from South Dakota State University. Hazel taught Home Economics for two years and on June 1, 1959 was married to Kenneth Lucke in Mitchell, SD. They moved to Colorado Springs in 1961. Hazel is survived by her husband Ken, three daughters: Carol Lucke, Diane Wright (David) and Janet Horning (Donald) and three granddaughters: Kirstie, Lindsey, and Kelsie. She is also survived by one sister Marjorie Burroughs and brothers Donald Klinger (Kay) and David Klinger (Sherry). She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Margaret Smith-Banasiak. Hazel was a committed and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to travel and kept records and picture albums of all trips. She was an accomplished seamstress. She was active in Girl Scouts, taught Sunday school and was a busy swim team mom while the girls were young. She loved to play bridge and was an avid reader. She was an active member of East United Methodist Church and Family and Consumer Sciences Organization. She will be remembered by many as a woman with strong faith who desired to help others and walk humbly with God. A memorial service to celebrate Hazel's life will be held at 1:30 on Friday, Dec 14th at East United Methodist Church, 1505 E. Monument, Colorado Springs. Memorials may be given in her name to East United Methodist Church, Heifer Project International or Pikes Peak Library District - Old Colorado City Branch.
