Helen Anderson Obituary

Helen McIntire Anderson a local author and artist was born in Helena, Montana, on June 3rd, 1906, the youngest of nine children. She passed away on March 4th, 2006 at the age of 99. She was preceded in death by her siblings and her husband, Jesse Hill Anderson. Helen studied art in New York and pursued a career in fashion advertising in California and Arizona until her marriage to Jesse Anderson, a Coca-Cola business executive in 1940. The couple came to Colorado Springs in 1962 and established Look Realty, a residential real estate business, where Helen worked as the office manager. Helen's life-long interest in touring historical homes and learning about the people who lived in them led her to write a book titled "Historic Homes of Colorado Springs and Vicinity" sponsored by the Colorado Springs Historic Preservation Alliance. Helen was an active member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Manitou Springs, Treasure Trails Antique Study Club, D.A.R. and was also a tour guide and artisan at the Van Briggle Art Pottery for a number of years. Helen was a loving mother and grandmother who always put her family first. Her kindness and graciousness were an inspiration to all that knew her. She is survived by three children: Henry Gordon Anderson and Elizabeth Wiegers of Colorado Springs and Catharine Helen Anderson of Athens, Greece; six grandchildren: Michael Ragsdale of Las Vegas, NV., Mary Thomas of Albuquerque, NM, Jess Ridley of Monument, CO; Dorothy Pinney of Tucson, AZ, John Glessner of Victor, CO Denise Panagoulis of Athens, Greece; 11 great grandchildren, five great great-grandchildren; and many dear friends and relatives. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 11th at St. Andrews Episcopal Church on Canon Avenue in Manitou Springs at 2:00 p.m.
