Helen Steele Obituary

Helen Steele died Sunday, August 11, 2013 in Louisville, Colorado, aged 90. She was born Helen Elaine Cooper in Gering, Nebraska on June 9, 1923. Her parents were William Miller Cooper and Alta Mae (Hanks) Cooper, both pioneers of Scottsbluff County, Nebraska. She married Lavon Clarence Steele on June 2, 1946 in Gering. He was a veteran of World War II in the Pacific. They owned neon and electric sign companies in Cody and Worland, Wyoming before they moved to Boulder in 1960 where they were partners in Lite Craft Neon. Helen was a potter and a founding member of the Boulder Potter's Guild. They sold their business in 1973 and moved to Colorado Springs. They also built a cabin on Glendo Reservoir in Wyoming where Helen loved spending time on the beach, driving their powerboat, playing bridge and entertaining a host of family and friends. They spent their winters at Lake Havasu in Arizona until Lavon died in 1997. Helen moved from Colorado Springs to the Denver area in 2011. Her last residence was at Balfour retirement community in Louisville. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Charles Michael Steele, and two brothers; Robert and Bill Cooper. She leaves to mourn her a sister; Doris Hamilton of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two daughters, Sandra Mullis of Lafayette, and Patricia Langness of Wichita, Kansas; six granddaughters and five great grandchildren. Services will be held at 2:30 on Wednesday, August 14 at the Boulder Valley Christian Church, 7100 South Boulder Road. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to TRU hospice, 2594 Trailridge Drive East, Lafayette, Colorado 80026-9928.
