Henry Gilmore Obituary

LTC Henry C. Gilmore, Jr. USA Ret. peacefully left us at Pikes Peak Hospice after a super hero battle with cancer. "Hank" was born in Pinewald, New Jersey to his loving parents Louise K. Tunney and Henry Gilmore.

Hank grew up in Seaside Heights, New Jersey. He attended Toms River High School and graduated from the University of Scranton. He received his MBA from the University of Utah.

Hank proudly served his country for 21 years with two tours in Vietnam and tours on Okinawa and in Germany. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Joint Services Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and the Bronze Star Meritorious Service Medal. He retired out of NORAD in Colorado Springs as an Assistant Command Director.

Hank was a man of "honesty, integrity and ethics", loved by many and respected by all. He was an amazing PopPop to his 5 grandchildren with whom he shared his passion for surf fishing in his beloved Seaside.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Carol Suhoskey Gilmore, daughters: Pam and son-in-law Walt Jones with grandsons Jordan and Josh; daughter Kim and son-in-law Kevin Sherman with grandchildren Konrad, Kelsie, and Kassandra; and daughter Stacey Gilmore.

He is also survived by his sister Cordy Lavery and husband Bobby, his brother Joe Gilmore and wife Donna, brother George Gilmore and wife Joanne, and many nieces and nephews who adored him. Hank touched many lives. Thank you to all who touched his.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 6455 Brook Park Drive Colorado Springs, 80918 at 11AM on Monday September 22, 2014.

A wonderful way to commemorate Hank is through "The Wounded Warrior Project" or Pikes Peak Hospice.

Hank, I still have some of those golf balls you gave me in a zip lock bag. I will remember you each time I tee off with one of them. Rest in peace, my friend. May heaven be full of golf courses and great places to fish. Jack Sherman

We are very sorry to hear about Mr. Gilmore. I have very fond memories of being his neighbor and growing up for 18 years on Gillen Road. Most recent, we were able to reconnect when my own children were in the neighborhood selling girl scout cookies. It was so great to see him. He was always very friendly and such a great man. Our sympathies to Mrs. Gilmore and the entire Gilmore family. Laura (Zawacki) James

Have met very few men more dedicated to his family, his friends, and his country as Hank was his entire life. With honor and integrity, honesty and a genuine love for life Hank symbolized the true meaning of a hero. Our hearts goes out to Carol, Pam, Kim and Stacey for loss of a wonderful husband and father. As you will dearly miss him, so very much will his extended family and friends. I am truly honored to have know him and spent time with him. His generosity and wisdom, his confidence in knowing there was nothing he couldn't accomplish. These were just a few traits of many I admired about him. Those traits along with so many others helped shape everyone around him including myself. Love the Jones family
