Henry Gottgetreu Obituary

Henry J. Gottgetreu, age 87, of Colorado Springs, passed away July 13, 2007 in Colorado Springs. He was born May 9, 1920 in Colorado Springs, Colorado a son of the late Henry A. and Jessie (Johnson) Gottgetreu. Henry graduated in 1939 from Colorado Springs High School. He worked as an architectural draftsman for Diets Architectural Service until he went into the United States Army in 1942. He served in England and France and was discharged in 1946 at Fort Logan, Colorado. After that, he worked in the construction industry helping build the Stratton Meadows and Park Hill areas, as well as may other homes around town, before moving to Westcliffe, Colorado in 1980 where he lived and worked until he retired in 2002. Henry was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #143 for 65 years where he served as Past President. He also held a dual membership in the Eastside Eagles #3260. Other memberships include the Elks and the American Legion. He is survived by one son, James Gottgetreu, Jr. of Lansing, Michigan; granddaughter, Marissa of Lansing, Michigan; and longtime companion, Rochelle Williams of Colorado Springs. Memorial Services will be held at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, 1050 S. 21st Street, Colorado Springs. Inurnment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pikes Peak Hospice or the American Cancer Society through the Eagles #143. Arrangements were entrusted to Funeral and Cremation Care in Colorado Springs.
