Henry Morgan, Sr. Obituary

Henry W. Morgan, Sr. passed away peacefully at his home on May 25, 2010 in Chicago, Illinois. He was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas, the third child of thirteen children from the union of Bishop Chester E. Morgan and his wife, Anna L. (Wilson) Morgan. The family moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado when he was an infant. He attended local schools and graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1936 and attended Colorado College. He married Rhoda (Dunlap) Morgan and they had four children. Later he moved to Chicago, Illinois where he resided until the time of his death. During world War II, Henry served in the US Navy as a Chief Petty Officer. Henry married Doris (Marks) Morgan on December 25, 1976 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. To this union one son, George Morgan, was added. Upon his retirement, Henry was employed at Sam's Club for 15 years as a Greeter. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Chester and James, and sisters, Rosa Jean Rose and Mercy McEwen, and one great-grandson, Richard Marshall. He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife Doris Morgan; five children, Esther (Theo) Holland, Henry (Edith), Johnny (Mary), James and George (Maria) Morgan; eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; two brothers, Joseph (Claudia) and Elder Justus (Alice) Morgan, Colorado Springs, Colorado; five sisters, Vanessa Reid, Anna (Ed) Wallich, Los Angeles, California; Grace Garrett, Denver, Colorado; Ruth Morgan; and Mary Lou (Fred) Bland, Colorado springs, Colorado; many nieces and nephews; two special friends, Karen Harris and Tyco Harris; and a host of other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on June 19, 2010 at Morgan's Memorial chapel located at 701 N. Spruce Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903.
