Henry Rodriguez Obituary

Henry Mathias Rodriguez passed away Sunday, February, 19, 2017. He was a junior at Discovery Canyon High School in Colorado Springs.

Henry was born on June 25, 2000 to Ernest Henry and Karen Gwen (Jones) Rodriguez in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was raised in a military family with his sister, Grace Rodriguez, and they were part of a traveling circus along with cats, dogs, and a goldfish. Together they moved across the country to three different states by the time he was three years old, before returning to Colorado in 2006.

Henry fell in love with rugby at the age of 11 and played with the Northern Colorado Springs Falcons and later the Colorado Springs Grizzlies High School Rugby Club. He was co-captain of this year's Grizzlies team. He was also honored to play on the Colorado All State team and the U-18 Glendale Raptors. Henry loved the outdoors and enjoyed rafting through the Grand Canyon in the summertime.

He is survived by his parents, Ernie and Gwen; his sister, Grace; his grandparents: Karen Jones and Ernie Rodriguez and Jean Wong; his aunt Dawn Miller; his uncle and aunt Craig and Stephanie Jones; his uncle John Rodriguez; by numerous cousins and great aunts and great uncles and many, many friends. Henry was preceded in death by his brother, Elias Giddens Rodriguez.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 2:30 p.m. at New Life Church, The Theater, 11025 Voyager Parkway. Inurnment will be private.

Though I was a new teacher to DCC this year, Henry was one of those students who made me feel welcome and helped created a sense of community in our classroom. He quickly became one of my favorite students. He has left an impression on me as an educator and a person. I miss him, (and especially his humor!) and will continue to miss him as there will always be a void in our marketing class. Sending love, peace and condolences to his family and friends. XOXO Kara Knittel

Ernie, Gwen, and Grace...may you find a shoulder to cry on and friends around you who will listen when you need to talk. Don't go through it alone. Please know there will be a day when there will be no more tears, no more pain, and no more sorrow, but until that time, we can only pray for strength and seek the Lord during this time of loss. May you find solace in Christ and may His strength, mercy, and grace be yours...blessings to you and your precious family.

Ernie, Gwen, Grace, and Family,
Our hearts are so sad over your loss of Henry. We so enjoyed having him in our home and in our lives as Sam's buddy. Henry had a very amusing sense of humor, was always the most polite kid around, and was a steady, loyal friend to many.
We are here for you in any way you might need us.
