Herman Appel Obituary

Nov 2, 1959- March 13, 2006 Was born November 2, 1959 in Germany and died unexpectedly at his home in Colorado Springs March 13, 2006. Herman loved wolves, movies, Harleys and kids. He was loyal, dependable, giving, jovial, and the truest friend anyone could wish for. Herman had a sparkle in his eye and grin that he would share with anyone. He kept his house, garden and trucks supremely manicured and he was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. Herman loved spending time in the company of friends, especially his 5-year-old buddy Gavin. Herman's hobbies included bodybuilding, volunteering as a crewmember for a local stock car race team, and collecting science fiction movies. Herman was a resident of Colorado Springs for 35 years and initially worked at a cattle ranch. His outstanding character, endearing personality and admirable work ethic led him to a career as a hotel manager in 1987. In 1999, Herman became the Field Manager for a real estate company and supervised maintenance for properties throughout the city. Herman is survived by his brothers Thorston, Juergen and Jesse, his sister Viola, and his mother Christel. He was deeply loved by his family and many friends. Visitation will be at Swan-Law Funeral home, 501 North Cascade, from 5-8 p.m. Monday March 20, 2006. The Funeral will take place at Swan-Law Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2006. The Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 4125 Constitution Ave, will conduct a "Celebration of Life" Ceremony, Tuesday March 21, 2006, at 5:00 p.m.

My deepest symapathy for the sad loss of our friend Herman. I was a friend of Herman's and knew him for tha last 10 years. We met through work(I do all of the flooring for Equity Group) and it was usually Herman who would meet me to walk through a property that needed new flooring. The first few years he was very shy, and would kick at the dirt with his hands in his pockets, while looking down in a bashful manner. Later when he came out of his shell, our frienddship bloomed. We could talk for hours about anything....working on farms, the last movie we had seen, work stuff etc. You never know how precious life is until someone you care about is taken from you. And, like the book and movie "Five People You Meet in Heaven" some people cross our paths and they make significant profound impacts on our lives. Herman with his kind ways really had an impact on me. The last time I saw Herman he said the kindest things to me. It was like he could tell that I was feeling really bad about myself and insecure, and he made me smile and showered me with compliments. I got through the day because of his kind and gentle words. I didn't know that it would be the last time I would see him. Just know that your pain and loss is shared with so many, many people that cared, loved and adored our Herman. He touched so many people...everyday! Love you Herman!!

Sincerely,

I will remember Herman Appel as a kind, soft spoken, generous man. We shared a love for wolves. He once had a Malamute and I once had a Husky and we would share stories about them. I will alway remember his smile. To his family I offer my deepest sympathy for your lost. I love you and miss you Herman and I will think of you always.
