Colonel (Dr.) (Retired) Hight Stinson Redmond, United States Army, passed away on Saturday, September 13th, 2025, at the age of 86.
A funeral service will be held at Pikes Peak National Cemetery on November 3, 2025, at 2PM MST, followed by a Celebration of Life at Patty Jewett Golf Course at 5:30PM MST.
Hight was born and raised in Banner Elk, North Carolina, to Washington Hight and Elizabeth Stinson Redmond on February 15th, 1939. He graduated from Darlington School in Rome, Georgia, before earning his Biology and Chemistry degree from Davidson College. In 1965, he received his Doctorate in Dental Surgery from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill — the beginning of a lifelong devotion to the Tar Heels that would become a cherished family tradition.
As a young officer, Hight met and married Janice Munday Redmond on July 24, 1968. His distinguished thirty-four-year military career took them across the globe, with assignments in Germany, Texas, Kentucky, Kansas, Washington, North Carolina, Hawaii, and Colorado, including a tour in Vietnam. His final command was as DENTAC Commander, Fort Carson, Colorado.
After retiring from the U.S. Army, Hight and Janice split their time between homes in Colorado Springs, Palm Springs, California, and Sun City West, Arizona. He continued to live life to the fullest — traveling extensively and playing tennis both recreationally and competitively well into his later years. He was also an avid card player whether it was gin, bridge or poker he was hard to beat and he passed this passion on to his son and daughter as well as his grandsons.
Hight was an only child, and he often expressed how meaningful it was to have two grandsons, Connor and Quinn, to carry on the Redmond name. His love for the Tar Heels became a special bond he shared with them, and he lived for their weekly phone calls, where they talked about golf, basketball, and life. These conversations were the highlight of his week and a reflection of the deep connection he nurtured with his grandsons.
Hight was preceded in death by his parents, Washington Hight and Elizabeth Stinson Redmond, and his beloved wife Janice Munday Redmond. Hight and Janice were married for 54 years.
He is survived by his children, Bradley Hight Redmond (Kristen) of Austin, Texas, and Caroline Paige Redmond of Fort Collins, Colorado, and his grandsons, Connor and Quinn Redmond of Austin, Texas.
