Homer Henley Obituary

June 7, 1914 - Feb 22, 2008. Homer Henley was born on the family farm near Pleasant Hill, MO. on June 7, 1914, to Elzie Henley and Cora (Draper) Henley. He received his teaching degree from Central Missouri State College in 1936 and his masters degree from the University of Northern Colorado in 1938. He married Dorothy Hartzell on November 11, 1936. She preceded him in death in 1984. His brother, Marion also preceded him in death in 1982. Homer then married Nona W. Furch in November 1985. He is survived by two sons, David, and Paul (Paula); 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; four step-children, six step-grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren. Homer taught school in Missouri and North Carolina and built airplanes for the military in Virginia and California during WWII. He moved to Colorado Springs in 1945 working part-time for Giddings Department Store and tinkering with locks, as well. He founded Henley's Key Service in 1945 and worked there until retiring in 2003. He was a member of Gideons International, The Associated Locksmiths of America, The First Evangelical Free Church. A Celebration of Homer's life will be held 11am, Saturday, March 1, 2008 at The First Evangelical Free Church, 820 N. 30th in Colorado Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214 or The Relocation Fund at First Evangelical Free Church.

Homer was a great friend and teacher. I learned so much from his trips to pueblo he never said no when anyone ask for his help or knowlegde. I will miss him very much.
