Howard Shaw Obituary

Shaw Jr.
Howard "chip" Shaw Jr.
June 7, 1933
May 26, 2022

Chip was born in Springfield, Massachusetts and peacefully went to be with the Lord from his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado where he lived most of his adult life. He leaves his wife of 29 years, Peggy Shaw, Joanne Harvey (The mother of his sons), sons Ken Shaw and Norm Shaw, daughter-in-laws Ruth Shaw and Ann Rodgers, 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death is his son Howard "Chip" Shaw III.

Chip was a 1955 graduate from Colorado College and served 2 years at Ft. Carson as Officer in Charge of Seperations. He was in the Life Insurance business for 41 years and earned many company and industry honors. He was a Life Leader and Master with Conn. Mutual; a Life Member of the Million Dollar Round Table and attained the coveted Top of the Table in 1988. He was also a 26-year honoree of the National Sales Achievement Award and National Quality Award. He served as President of the local Life Underwriters Assoc. and CLU Association. In 1989 he was awarded the Colorado Springs Life Underwriters Distinguished Service Award. For many years he served as a director of the Pikes Peak Boys and Girls Club and most recently as a director and volunteer with Crossfire Ministries.

Mr. Shaw was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs. In the winter he attended Church of the Master in Mesa, AZ. He has a great love of automobiles and owned over 150 in his lifetime. Chip loved to travel, especially on cruise ships, including one on the Amazon River. He and his family enjoyed nature and the outdoors, and he was an avid fisherman. He had fished in many different places including foreign countries. Most of all, he loved his summer place at Mount Massive Lakes Estates and blessed hundreds of people with wonderful fishing trips there. His sons credit that place with their initiation into manhood.

In lieu of flowers, Chip requested gifts to Crossfire Ministries (PO Box 9650, Colorado Springs, CO 80932). A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church at 2:00 pm on June 7th.

Dear Peggy, Ken and Norman,

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge Chip's passing. It was our good fortune to make Chip and his family's acquaintance in 1967 when Gordie joined the CML insurance family. It was such an honor to have Chip as a colleague, but most importantly as a friend! Memories of many happy hours fishing at Mount Massive, not to mention the Gin Rummy games! Chip's success in the insurance field is well documented, and his willingness to share ideas and experiences were appreciated by the agency. One of my fondness memories of my insurance career was receiving the "Chip Shaw Award" for number of cases in the agency in 1985. Our hearts go out to you Peggy, Ken and Norm, and wish you the very best!
Love,
Gordon and Judy Smith
