Ida Evans Obituary

Mrs. Ida Louise (Anderson) Evans, 88, of Colorado Springs, CO, a devoted Army wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died on November 1, 2013 following a protracted illness.

Born on August 14, 1925 in Annapolis, MD, Ida was the daughter of the late Rear Admiral Anton Bennett and Eleanor Miriam (Thompson) Anderson. On August 28, 1945 she married John M. Evans, a career US Army officer. As an Army wife Ida moved and established homes for her family 22 times at different posts, camps and stations throughout the United States, Germany, Austria, and Italy while raising two children.

Mrs. Evans was an Anglican/Episcopalian and had an active lay-ministry at each Army station singing in choirs, volunteering at thrift shops and directing altar guilds. After her husband retired from the Army she served parishes in California, the District of Columbia, Virginia and Colorado.

At the time of her death Ida was a communicant in the parish of St. Aidan in Colorado Springs. She was one who was frequently devout in prayer, receiving the sacrament and reading the Bible. Ida had a reverence for God's House and gave due attention and respect to her priests and their homilies. She had a great esteem for the ministry of the Anglican Church, a hatred of heresy and a zeal to propagate the true worship of God.

Ida is survived by her husband, COL John M. Evans, US Army (Ret) of Colorado Springs, CO; a son, the Rev. Richard A. Evans of Gainesville, GA; a daughter, Mrs. Nancye L. (Evans) Culbreath of Colorado Springs, CO; a brother, the Rev. Fr. Alister C. Anderson of Frederick, MD; and by four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Graveside services and burial are pending at Arlington National Cemetery.
