Iona Barnes Obituary
Iona was united in Holy Matrimony to David L. Barnes on January 22, 1971; their marriage would span and flourish over the decades. Their union was blessed with a son, Billy W. Peterson.
Iona was a proud resident of Colorado Springs for 55 years and a respected nurse in the community who loved to go fishing and traveling. She was an active member in church and proudly served as an Usher. Iona loved to dwell in quality time with her grandchildren and other loved ones.
Mrs. Iona Barnes worked at both Penrose Hospital Main and St. Francis hospital over the years. Unfortunately in the eighties, Mrs. Iona Barnes was in a couple of car accidents and was unable to continue working in the hospital. In 1985, Mrs. Barnes worked at Walgreens in downtown Colorado Springs where she proudly became the head cashier. A short time after, Mrs. Barnes had to leave Walgreens and care for both her mother and mother-in-law due to health issues. Mrs. Iona Barnes spent the latter of her years as a devoted wife, loving mother and dedicated caretaker. She will be greatly missed by everyone who was blessed to know her.
Iona is preceded in death by her mother and father.
Iona leaves to cherish her memory husband, David Barnes; son Billy Peterson; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren along with a host of loved ones.
A visitation for Iona Barnes will be held on Friday, June 23 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Angelus Chapel Funeral Directors (1104 S. Circle Drive). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 24 beginning at 10:00 am at Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church (3615 Vickers Drive). Burial will follow service at Evergreen Cemetery.
