Irene Humphries Obituary

Irene W. Humphries, age 73, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1972 and a native of Germany passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at a local assisted living center. She was an Air Force wife, doting mother, loving sister and wonderful grandmother.

Irene Waultraud Russwurm was born on November 27, 1941 in Abensberg, Germany to the late George and Maria (Mulbauer) Russwurm. She attended Catholic parochial schools in Germany where she was also a candle girl in the parish. She met Robert C. Humphries while he was in the Air Force stationed in Germany. They married on May 29, 1964 in Brooklyn, New York.

Together, they raised a family and served their country with various moves in the United States Air Force. Robert decided that Colorado Springs was a perfect place to retire. They moved here in 1972. Robert passed away in 1987.

Mrs. Humphries enjoyed dancing, music, parties and exercising. She will be best remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, her robust laugh and her devotion to her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brother, George, who passed in 2012.

Irene is survived by a daughter, Monika Galmaier (Dieter) of Abensberg, Germany; two sons, Robert C. Humphries, Jr. (Darla) of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Ronald Humphries (Jeri) of Woodbridge, Virginia. She also has a brother, Ernst Russwurm of Abensberg, Germany; and two grandsons, Zachary and Elijah.
