Irma Van Sickle Obituary

Irma Louise (Jeff) Van Sickle, age 84, died on July 29, 2005 at Sunrise Assisted Living of Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born on August 12, 1920 in Greenwich, Connecticut, the daughter of the late Newton and Hattie Fulton. After graduating from Danbury State Teacher's College in Danbury, Connecticut she taught for several years. She enlisted in the U.S. Navy WAVES during World War II, and was stationed at the War Department in Washington D.C. where she met her husband, Max Van Sickle. Together they spent over 50 years living in the Washington, D.C. area. She was a very active volunteer with the Mental Health Association, where she held leadership positions at the national level, and was past-president at the state and local level. In addition, she was on the Board of Directors of Prince George's County Hospital, and a long-time member of Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church in College Park, Maryland. After her husband died in 1999, she moved to Colorado Springs to be near her daughter. She is survived by her daughter Pamela Hoskinson; two grandsons, Benjamin Humphreys and Alexander Hoskinson; and sister Mildred Backus. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Max Van Sickle; and her sister Betty Ferche. The family would like to thank the staff of Sunrise Assisted Living of Colorado Springs for their kindness and help during the time she resided there. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 9, 2005 at 11:30 a.m. at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, Maryland; with a reception to follow. A memorial service in Colorado Springs will be held at a later date.

Jeff was my favorite resident and I looked forward to seeing her everyday at Sunrise. She is very missed and it's not the same there without her dancing and laughter. I loved her very much and felt blessed to know her. My prayers are with you.

Pam and Richard,

My deepest sympathy to you and your family. I really enjoyed taking care of your mom at Sunrise. She will always be very special to me! We could always make each other smile! Also, I have been with Millie several of the last few nights and helping her through this hard time. She is doing as well as can be expected. I even manage to make her smile occasionally. Please know that she is getting the love and support she needs.

Sincerly, Tricia Cross
