Ivy Whitney Obituary

Ivy Edna (Mayhew) Whitney, age 89, passed away on June 6, 2009 from complications of leukemia. She was born on July 16, 1919 to George and Edna (Davis) Mayhew on a farm near Yoder, Colorado. She attended Columbine School. In 1936 she married Monfort (Bud) Whitney. To this union 3 sons were born. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bud and one son Cecil. Ivy is survived by two sons, Raymond (Cora) of Crane, Missouri and Monty (Betty) of Calhan. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Additionally, Ivy is survived by 9 step grandchildren and 8 step great grandchildren. Ivy and Bud were married in Colorado Springs on August 28, 1936 and returned to their farm near Yoder where they ran their dairy, farmed and raised beef cattle. They were very active in the Washington Grange and were active participants and leaders in their sons’ 4-H activities. Bud and Ivy enjoyed dancing, card playing and visiting with family and friends. In the 1960’s they moved to Colorado Springs where Ivy started her career in civil service as a checker at ENT Air Force Base commissary. After retiring, Ivy enjoyed gardening, traveling, visiting with her extended family, dancing and many board games. A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at Swan-Law Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 11, 2009, Swan- Law Funeral Home Cascade Chapel with the burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to American Cancer Society.
